Willie Powe Life and Times

Willie Dee Powe, a pillar of strength and a beacon of faith, left this world on April 26, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, kindness, and unwavering commitment to his loved ones and his community. Born in the warm embrace of Houston County, Alabama, on June 17, 1944, Willie's roots ran deep in the soil of his beloved hometown, where his life's journey began with the guidance and love of his late mother, Alice Marie Powe.

Willie dedicated his life to Christ at an early age, embracing his faith with a fervor that shone through every facet of his being. He was a steadfast servant at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, later known as New Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where he was ordained a Deacon, took pride in serving on the Usher Board, and assumed various roles that demonstrated his commitment to his faith and fellowship.

With a heart overflowing with love, Willie was a cherished husband to his wife of 62 years, Willie Mae Powe. Their union was a testament to enduring love and mutual respect, and together they raised six remarkable children. Willie's role as a father was characterized by unconditional love, wisdom, and the kind of guidance that lights the path for generations to follow.

His professional life was just as storied as his personal one; Deacon Powe dedicated over 50 years of service to Woodham Farms before retiring in 2017. However, retirement was not the end of his contributions, as he continued to serve his community through a family lawn-care business with his brother, nurturing the land with the same care he nurtured his family.

Willie's passion for baseball, which began in his youth when he played as a pitcher for a local league, remained a gleaming thread in the fabric of his interests, alongside his fervent support for the Green Bay Packers. His love for the game was paralleled only by his love for life and the people around him.

Though he is preceded in death by his loving sons: Willie Dee Powe, Jr., and Anthony Jeter; his brothers: Charlie T. Powe, Roland Williams, Robert L. Powe, and David Mathis, and his sisters: Mary Emma Moore, and Gelaine M. Powe-Robinson, his spirit is carried on through his surviving family. His legacy lives on through his loving wife: Willie Mae Powe, his six devoted children: Melody Powe, Reverend Davy F. Powe, Joyce Jeter, Paula Powe, Bernadette Powe, and Tiffanie Powe - along with his cherished twelve grandchildren: Shaquenta, Jasmine(Jeffrey), Bethany; Davy Jr, Diamond, Ashley (Darrin), Antinia, Anajulia, Jeremie, Tameshia, Joshua, and Matthew; seven great-grandchildren: Trycon (Payton), Elaina, Jayda, Jeremie Jr., Amiyah, Aliyana, and Malia, and not to mention the newest bud on the family tree - his great-great-granddaughter: Ivy Jayne.

Willie's brother, Lee E. (Rosa) Powe, and a constellation of sisters-in-law: Bobbie Finch, Girlie Shivers, Jerry L. Harris, Jane Harris, Ruth Powe, and Virginia Powe; his brothers-in-law: Herbert Ray Harris and Jonny (Alice) Harris, and his special nephew Ahmad "ToBat" Harris, along with a myriad of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends, will continue to treasure the memories of his extraordinary life. His beloved pets, Vincent and Sylvester, will miss the warmth of his presence.

Let us remember Willie Dee Powe not just for the roles he filled, but for the lives he touched and the joy he brought into the world. In his honor, let us reflect on the words of Helen Keller: "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all." Willie lived as if every day was a daring adventure, filled with love, faith, and the courage to make a difference.

Today, as we celebrate the life of a man who was an inspiration to all who knew him, let us carry forward the light of his spirit, the depth of his kindness, and the wisdom of his words. Willie Dee Powe, your journey on this earth was a masterpiece of love and service, and your memory will forever be etched in the hearts that you've left behind. Rest in peace, kind and gentle soul, for your life was a song of hope and your legacy a symphony of love.
