As night turned into day Willie R. Copeland completed his journey on this earth peacefully in his sleep at his home on September 10, 2024 at the age of 84.
Willie was born to Leroy and Lillie Mae Copeland in Goshen, Alabama on November 26, 1939. Willie met Lula in Talladega, Alabama at a worship training facility for the blind. They were married in 1961 and moved to Dothan, Alabama. Willie retired from the vending business in 1996.
Willie would say his most significant accomplishment was inspiring others through his singing ministry. Willie was baptized in 1972 at the Blackshear Street Church of Christ, now South Park Avenue Church of Christ. He was a gifted and emotional singer who could touch your heart. His soulful singing could make you shout, bring joy to your heart, and fill you with the Holy Spirit!
Willie was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Roy Copeland, Jr., and Willie J. Copeland; his sisters: Lillie Mae Cope and Johnnie Mae Johnson; his daughter: Erika Copeland; his granddaughter: Mariah Long.
Willie leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Lula Copeland; four children: Mary E. McKinney (James), Cynthia C. Long (Felix), Madalyn P. Smith (Raymond) and Dedra Galloway (Trique); ten grandchildren: Desmond Curry, Tristen Long, Jermaine Long, Kyia Long, Philip Thomas, Aarron Thomas, Ka’Marionna Galloway, Saniya Galloway, Caleb Walker and Zamorrie Grubbs; eight great grandchildren: Trista Long, Kyle Long, Cynthia Long, Orion, Polaris, Naveah, Jermaine Long, Miya Long, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
