Wilbur Bishop, Jr. Life and Times

Wilbur Bishop, Jr., known affectionately as Wilbur, was a beacon of love and joy who illuminated the lives of everyone he touched. Born on July 3, 1953, in Dothan, Alabama, Wilbur embarked on a life journey that would be characterized by devotion, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community. On June 16, 2024, Wilbur concluded his earthly chapter, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and uplift all who were privileged to know him.

Wilbur was a true family man at heart. His 40-year marriage to his beloved wife, Rose Mary Bishop, was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Valdez S. Bishop, who, with his wife Natasha, continued the family legacy in Dothan, Alabama; Christopher Neal, who, with his wife Stephanie, also made Dothan their home; and their cherished daughter, Samantha Bishop. Wilbur's role as a grandfather to Zaira Christian Neal and Valencia Bishop was one of his greatest joys, as he imparted wisdom and laughter in equal measure.

The son of the late Wilbur Sr. and Annie M. Blackmon Bishop, Wilbur was the embodiment of the values instilled in him by his parents. His siblings—Billy Blackmon, Jerome Bishop, Dennis Bishop, Johnny Blackmon, Annie Blackmon, and Barbara Bishop Ross West—shared in the journey of life with Wilbur, each contributing to the rich tapestry of his story. His brotherly bond with Jimmy Blackmon was especially profound, a special friendship that stood the test of time.

Wilbur's formative years were spent within the nurturing environment of the Dothan, Alabama school system, where he laid the foundations for his future achievements. His professional life was marked by 30 years of dedicated service at Howard Plywood, where he not only excelled in his career but also formed lasting friendships and connections.

Though a quiet man by nature, Wilbur's presence was anything but silent. His love for western movies, game shows, and wrestling was only surpassed by the joy he found in the simple pleasure of spending time with his family. Wilbur's life was a living example that true happiness is found not in the grand gestures but in the quiet moments shared with loved ones.

Describing Wilbur as loving, kind, and generous only scratches the surface of the profound impact he had on the world around him. His generosity extended beyond material gifts, as he gave of himself through his time, his wisdom, and his unwavering support. Wilbur's kindness was a gentle force that could turn a challenging day into one filled with hope and warmth.
