Wendell Cummings Life and Times

Deacon Wendell Cummings was born on April 20, 1962, to the Late Wallace Lee Cummings Sr. and the late Daisy Mae Hollis Cummings in Dothan, AL. He made his mark as the 3rd child of 11. Wendell was educated in the Dothan City Schools. After graduation from Dothan High School in 1981, he entered the military and served 4 years active duty and 22 years in the Army National Guard before retiring. He furthered his education by obtaining an AAS degree from Faulkner University in Montgomery, AL. Wendell also retired from the City of Dothan after 35 years of employment.

On October 9, 1981, Wendell married his high school sweetheart Anita Brantley. This union was blessed with five children. Although Wendell was baptized at an early age; it wasn’t until 1983 that he fully dedicated and committed his life to the Lord and received the Holy Ghost at Victory Drive Deliverance Temple in Savannah, GA.

When he and his family returned to Dothan from the military, they joined New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. He was a faithful and active member until his health began to fail.  His love and dedication to the Lord made him a pillar to his family and his church family.

Wendell was a Deacon, a member of the Male Chorus and the Voices of New Bethel Choir and a Finance Committee member. He was also a Sunday School attendee and worked in Children’s Church with his then wife Anita. He was also involved in the St. Mary District Layman’s Convention. Wendell was involved in his community as well. He coached the Webb Pee Wee team where his son was a quarterback. He and his family were the 1996 “Family of the Year” chosen by the Dothan Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta. They were also the 1993 Sunday School Family of the year at New Bethel.

Wendell was preceded in death by not only his parents and Grandparents; but also, by his two daughters Tamika Cummings and Shamika Cummings and a grandson Ayden Pippin.
