Walter Pritchett, Sr. Life and Times

Mr. Walter Pritchett, age 74, of Rochester, New York passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2020.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 12 PM at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 7482 Highway 82 Union Springs, Alabama 36089.

Burial will immediately follow the service at the church cemetery.

Walter James Pritchett, Sr. was born to the late Andrew Lee Pritchett and Mittie Mae Wiggins Pritchett on May 12, 1945.  At an early age, he joined the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Union Springs, Alabama.

In 1969, he moved to Rochester, New York.  There, he was employed by Plymouth Rock and the University of Rochester, from which he retired.

Walter was united in Holy Matrimony to Sarah Thompkins.  He truly enjoyed family gatherings, fishing, traveling and hanging out with his friends on Jefferson Avenue.  He will be remembered for always having a smile on his face.

Walter departed this life February 25, 2020 at his place of residence.  He is preceded in death by his son: Terry Youngblood; parents: Andrew Lee Pritchett and Mittie Mar Wiggins Pritchett; sisters: Viola Askew and Mollie Brundage; brothers: Willis Pritchett and Harvey Pritchett and sister-in-law: Ida Bell Pritchett.

He leaves to cherish his memory, six loving children: Walter (Gloria) Pritchett, Jr. of Montgomery, Alabama, Juan (Delores) Pritchett of Ozark, Alabama, Mittie (Fred) Smith of Troy, Alabama, Vicky (Julio) Hernandez of Ruston, Louisana, Weona Pritchett of Rochester, New York and Anthony Madden of Russelville, Alabama; 25 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; five sisters: Helen Murray of Fitzpatrick, Alabama, Ernestine Brundage and Mandy Mathew of Haines City, Florida, Bertha (James) Jones and Betty Watson of Rochester, New York; one brother: Archie (Ruby) Pritchett of Union Springs, Alabama; special friend: Felicia Cooks and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
