Ms. Virginia Hardrick, age 81, of Dothan, AL passed away on January 19, 2022; visitation will be Friday, January 28, 2022, 4-6 PM at the funeral home; Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2022, 1 PM at the The Church of Jesus Christ if The Latter Day, 3199 Ross Clark Circle, Dothan, AL; burial will be followed at the Union Hill Cemetery; under the direction of the caring staff of Scott's Chapel Hill Mortuary "Because We Care".
Miss Virginia “Miss Shack” Lee Shackleford Hardrick was born on April 26, 1940 to the late Mrs. Ira Mae and Mr. Andrew Shackleford in Cottonwood, Alabama.
She attended Cottonwood High School. She received her high school diploma in 2005 and was one of the first African-American female bus drivers.
She was paid tribute to by the Wiregrass Area with a column in the Dothan Eagle for being the longest term employee and Head Cook at the former Square Cafeteria for thirty plus years. She was also employed with Dothan City Schools and Dothan Leisure Services for several years.
She gave her life to Christ at a very early age. Miss Shack attended Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Cottonwood, Alabama, and later joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 2005.
She was preceded in death by three of her children and four siblings: Kenneth Hardrick, Anthony Hardrick, Pearletha Hamilton, Geraldine Campbell, Busta Shackleford, Gussie Reynolds and Willie B. Shackleford.
She leaves to cherish her memories seven children: Bobby Hardrick, Danny Hardrick, Tony Hardrick, Opal (Clayton) Moore, Martha (Melvin(d)) Hardrick, Elamon (Tekevien) Hardrick, Januan “Gee” Goods, Jr.; twenty-one grandchildren: Kimia (Banard) Anglin, Lakendrick Hardrick, Cordilia Hardrick, Corknic Hardrick, Laronica (Mike) Hardrick, Danny Hardrick, Jr., Laneeka (Jason) Graves, Dantrel (Jasmine) Hardrick, Shankysha (Otis) Howard, Jarrad (Ashley) Hamilton, Dantrel Hamilton, Bobby Hardrick, Jr., Zakiyah Tillman, Ken’Norris Ford, Jimaury Lewis, Martina Reynolds, Renita Peeks, Chad Bryant, Lorenzo Smith, Corenzo Smith and Jacquez Shackleford; thirty-five great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; two sisters: Barbra Coleman and Martha (Charles(d)) Walker; aunts: Lueal Shackleford and Patricia Blackmon; godchildren: Cappriell Caliste, Patrick Reynolds, Danny Coleman, Jr.; special family and friends: Luetralla Truitt, Lilly Ann Truitt, Frank (Edna) Truitt, Essie Tubbs, Cathy Truitt, Laurann Wilson, Marcel Lawton, Willie Mae Poncey, Kenneth Britt, Jimmy Walker and Johnny Bullard; sons-in-law: Kenneth Hamilton and Alfred Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
