Tyeesha Lashaye Martin - James

Mrs. Tyeesha Martin-James, age 38, of Dothan, Alabama passed away, Sunday, April 4, 2021.

Drive Through viewing will be Thursday, April 8, 2021 from 4 PM to 6 PM at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, April 9, 2021 at 1 PM at The Dothan Civic Center, 126 N. St. Andrews Street, Dothan, Alabama 36303.

Burial will immediately follow the service at Gates of Heaven Cemetery.

Tyeesha Lashaye Martin-James was born on March 13, 1983, in Dothan, Alabama, to Sharon Martin and Kenneth Garlington.

She attended Dothan City Schools.  Tyeesha had a beautiful voice and loved singing.  She was a member of several local chairs throughout her youth.  After experiencing several loses of family members and friends, Tyeesha decided that she had to do something.  Tyeesha was a vocal anti-gun violence advocate and began her efforts for her community organization "Mothers against gun violence".

The death of her son, Kendarrius DeWayne Martin, was the inspiration behind Tyeesha's efforts to go into the community, reach out, speak life, and inspire other young men to put down the guns.  She was affectionately known to many of them as "Mama Eesha".  Her love and passion for this cause was evident in every conversation she had and lets not forget about her Facebook Live Session.  Tyeesha was never shy about expressing herself.  Tyeesha was the self-proclaimed "First Lady" of the Program Entertainment.  Of all these things, Tyeesha was a loving mother and grandmother.  They were the center of her world and she worked hard to support them in all their efforts.

Tyeesha was preceded in death by her father: Kenneth Garlington; her mother: Sharon Martin; her son: Kendarrius DeWayne Martin; and her brother: Kenneth DeWayne Garlington.

She is survived by her significant other: Bershard Dunn; the father of her children: Eric James, Sr.; her children: Eric James, Jr., ZyCory James, and Erianna James; grandchildren: Kameron Martin and Royalty James; step-father: Ernest Myhand; brothers: Spencer Martin, Keith (Audrey Brown) Martin, Shane Martin, Quentin (Shantia Griffin) Myhand, LaShawn (Jennifer) Myhand, and Jason (Lyasia Davis) Myhand; sistersTeresa (Narada) Lloyd and Shann Martin; special cousins: Mazue Martin, Larry Brackins, Tasha Martin, De'Waszhe Martin and Kamila Martin; special friends: Amy Martin, Katrina Springfield, Aisha Jones and Adrienne Young; fourteen nieces; fifteen nephews and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and friends throughout the community.
