Mrs. Thelma Lee Glasgow Walker was born on May 1, 1933. She was one of six children born to the late Jacob Glasgow and Birdie Lawrence. She was the granddaughter of the late Eugene and Estella Horn Glasgow and the late Milburn and Joanna Lawrence. She was the great granddaughter of Jachob and Mandy Glasgow. She was raised around the North Henry County area, known as the Screamer/Centerville Community. Thelma attended public schools in the Centerville area and later attended the Henry County Training School in Abbeville, Alabama. At the age of 17, Thelma met her soldier and soulmate, the late Moses C. Walker, Sr. They were married on March 15, 1952 in Fort Gaines, Georgia. Of this union three children, Annie Joyce, Moses, Jr., and Yolonda Denise, were born. Mrs. Thelma was a hardworking mother that made sure her husband Moses, her children, and her grandchildren ate three hot meals a day; despite working a full-time job. Mrs. Thelma was in one of the first groups of African American women hired by West Point Pepperell. She served in various positions, including the Folding and the Packing Department until 1998, when she made the decision to retire.
Thelma had a very colorful personality and was loved by many. All knew her as a sweet but sassy and very outspoken lady. She was a very perceptive person and understood people well. She was a great cook and was famously known for her collard greens, chitterlings, and especially her various specialty flavors of cake. Her caramel cake was loved by everyone. She truly adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved good quartet singing and attended as many sings as she could get to. Her favorite being the Mother's Day sing at Old Friendship A.M.E. in Shorterville, Alabama, at which she would often win the prize for being the oldest mother in attendance.
