Scottie Johnson, Sr. Life and Times

Scottie Alton Johnson, Sr., a cherished pillar of the Dothan community and beloved family man, passed away peacefully on his 70th birthday, July 1, 2024, in the town where his story began. Born in Dothan, Alabama, on July 1, 1954, to the late Isaac and Mae Emma Johnson, Scottie was a beacon of light and love to all who knew him.

A man of faith and compassion, Scottie accepted Christ at an early age and was a dedicated member of New Bethel Baptist Church. His commitment to his faith was evident in the way he lived his life, with kindness and a generous spirit that touched the hearts of many.

Scottie was a proud graduate of Dothan High School, where he was an active and enthusiastic participant in sports, showcasing his team spirit and camaraderie during the 1972-1973 school year. His love for athletics would remain a lifelong passion.

In his journey through life, Scottie was a source of strength and inspiration to his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Mae Emma Johnson, and his son, Scottie Alton Johnson Jr.

His memory will be forever cherished by his loving son, Eric (Fredia) Johnson; his daughter, Kidada (John) Thomas; his devoted sister, Frances Johnson; and his brothers, Michael Webb, Bruce Johnson, and Wayne (Shirley) Webb.

Scottie's legacy continues through his seven grandchildren, Tristan Henderson, Za'Maine Henderson, JaMarius (Mahalia) Henderson, DeVontae Johnson, De'Andre Henderson, De'Onte Henderson, and Sirrico Bennett, all of whom brought immense joy and pride to his life. He was also a doting great-grandfather to seven great-grandchildren, who will grow up hearing tales of their great-grandfather's warmth and wisdom.

A special nephew and niece held a place in Scottie's heart, reminding him of the bond and continuity of family. His presence in their lives was a guiding light, and his influence will remain a cherished memory.

Scottie's life was a testament to the truth of Helen Keller's words: "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." His love for his family, his friends, and his community became a part of all who knew him, and his spirit will continue to live on through them.
