Ruthie Mae McAllister, a beacon of love and strength, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2024, at the age of 85, in her beloved home in Dothan, Alabama. Born on January 21, 1939, in Columbia, Alabama, Ruthie's life was a testament to the enduring power of family and faith.

Ruthie was the cherished daughter of the late Sam McAllister and Carrie Smith McAllister. Her early years in Columbia were filled with the warmth of a close-knit family and the joys of Southern living. She carried the spirit of her birthplace with her throughout her life, spreading kindness and hospitality wherever she went.

Her departure from this world was as serene as her presence in it, surrounded by the love of her family who will forever remember her with fondness and admiration. Ruthie was the matriarch who guided her siblings with wisdom and grace, leading by example in all aspects of life.

Preceding her in death were her parents: Sam McAllister and Carrie Smith McAllister; her brothers: John, James, Sam, and Reuben McAllister; her sisters: Bettye Vinson, Elizabeth Rodgers, and Frances McAllister. Their reunion in eternity is a comforting thought for all who loved them.

Left to honor Ruthie's memory are her devoted sisters: Maurine Short of Dothan, Alabama, Christine McAllister of Tampa, Florida, Carrie McAllister of Cleveland, Ohio, Doris Trawick of Fife, Washington; and her adored brother: Walter McAllister of Tampa, Florida. Her special nephew: Andy Short, alongside a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends, will forever hold Ruthie in their hearts as a source of joy and inspiration.

Ruthie's life was a living example of a quote by Maya Angelou, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Everyone who knew Ruthie can attest to the warmth and compassion she brought into their lives. Her legacy is one of love, and the imprints of her caring touch are etched in the hearts of those she touched.

Ruthie's journey through life was marked by her unwavering faith, her commitment to her family, and her ability to find joy in the simplest of moments.
