Mrs. Ruth Ellis Reaves, affectionately known as "Baye," passed away peacefully on October 19, 2023, in her hometown of Dothan, Alabama. Born on June 28, 1948, she was a beacon of strength, generosity, and compassion. Ruth's gentle yet passionate nature touched the lives of all who knew her.
Ruth was the seventh of nine children born to Ismae "JB" and Jeannette Dunlap. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Ann Henderson, Sherman Dunlap, and Hazel M. Reeves. Ruth is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Leon Reaves, and their adoring children: Trina Jennings of El Cajon, California, Shana McDaniel (Wendell) of Nashville, Tennessee, Beverly Reaves and Fatima (Anthony) Lloyd of Dothan, Alabama, and a son, Cedric Reaves of
Dothan, Alabama. She was a beloved sister to Virginia (Henry) Wellons of Tamarac, Florida, Annette Reeves of Sedalia, Missouri, John (Deborah) Dunlap of Atlanta, Georgia, Dale Dunlap, Sr., and Larry Dunlap, Sr., both of Dothan, Alabama. Ruth also leaves behind half-sisters Sherry Crosby of Granite City, Illinois, and Katina Harvey of Saint Louis, Missouri.
As a matriarch, Ruth was a beacon of love and support to her fourteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a close-knit family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Ruth held a special place in her heart for her niece, Sharlene Thompson, and her godsons, Blake Ginn, Kareem Poke, and Chris Williams.
Ruth's love for life was evident in the joy she found in simple pleasures. She was an avid dancer who moved with a grace that belied her petite stature. An angler at heart, Ruth found peace and tranquility in fishing. A culinary enthusiast, she was known for her delicious meals that brought family and friends together. Ruth's care
for her loved ones extended beyond her immediate family, touching the lives of many who came to know her. Her incredible strength, both physical and emotional, was an inspiration to all.
Throughout her life, Ruth's generous spirit shone brightly. Her loving nature and warm heart made her a cherished wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. Passionate in all her endeavors, Ruth dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her family and friends, ensuring they felt loved and cared for. Her gentle demeanor was a comforting presence, providing solace during challenging times.
Ruth's passing leaves a void in the hearts of her family and friends, but her impact will continue to resonate. Her legacy of love, strength, and generosity will live on through those she leaves behind.
