Rubben Walker Whitehurst, Sr. began his journey with parents Grady Walker Whitehurst, Sr. and Molanie Wilson Whitehurst. Mr. Whitehurst was born in rural Houston County (Grangerburg) Alabama.
Rubben gave 71 years of faithful service to the legendary Gospel Travelers of Dothan, Alabama. He was the lead singer and taught several members to play the guitar. He was a radio personality at WOOF radio station for 60+ years broadcasting every Sunday morning.
Mr. Whitehurst was a life-long member of Triumph the Church and Kingdom of God in Christ.
He was employed by the E.R. Porter Hardware Store family since he was 17 years old and remained there until his illness. On October 27, 2023, Rubben left many lasting memories with his family, after a brief illness.
He married Mozell Dawsey on May 31, 1953. They shared 70 years of marriage grace until her passing on October 4, 2023.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grady, Sr., and Molanie Whitehurst; two sisters, Evelyn Whitehurst Rich and Lanie Mae Whitehurst Brown; five brothers, Benjamin Whitehurst, Jacob Whitehurst, Sr., Reverend Isaac Whitehurst, Hosea Whitehurst, and James Edward Whitehurst.
Rubben leaves to cherish his memory:

Three Brothers-In-Love: Mark (Daisy) Dawsey, Zack (Nell) Dawsey, and Nehemiah (Idell) Dawsey
Special Coworkers and Friends: Russ Conaway, E.R. Porter Preservation Team, and the remaining members of the Gospel Travelers
Rubben Whitehurst leaves eight grandchildren: Felicia (Jay) Jones, Sgt. Ret. Christopher (Cynthia) Whitehurst, Candace Temmis Clavette Donnell, Shamar (Essie) Davis, Damien Whitehurst, Jasmine Davis, Holli Davis. Eleven great grandchildren: Azaria (Malik) Wright, Xavier (Michelle) Jones, Christian (Brielle) Whitehurst, Christopher Whitehurst, Tierra Donnell, Caynebrone (DeAndria) Belcher, Braylen Truett, Cherish Truett, Nia Whitehurst, Josiah Davis, Jayceon Davis, Kensley Wright. Nine great-great grandchildren: A’Mara Belcher, Ace Wright, Xavia Jones, Melani Jones, Malachi Whitehurst, Amiri Whitehurst and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends.
