Obituary

Ms. Rosa Martin, age 88, of Dothan, Alabama passed away Friday, April 15, 2022.

Drive through visitation will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022 from 3 PM to 5 PM at the Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 11 AM at Stringer Street AME Church, 1900 Stringer Street, Dothan, Alabama 36303 with burial immediately following at North Highland Church Cemetery, 1110 Montana Street, Dothan, Alabama 36303.

 

Mrs. Rosa Mae Martin (also affectionally called Ma’ Dear) was born on January 29, 1934, to the late Jetto (Curry) Brown and Roosevelt Brown in Houston County, Alabama. 
 

Her early years of life were spent as a Cosmetologist and doing other carious jobs. She retired from Ansell’s; where she worked there for over 35 years from Pearlie’s 24 hour sitting service. She attended Stringer Street AME Church; where she was an active member until her health started failing. She was Choir President, a member of the Women’s Missionary, and worked in the kitchen ministry for many years. Some of her enjoyments and hobbies were cooking, fishing, decorating, singing, helping, and entertaining others. She loved her brothers, sisters, children, grandchildren, family, and friends.
 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Charlie Ray Martin; her sisters: Mildred Harris and Christel Stanley; her brothers: Randall Brown, elmer Brown, and Charlie Ray Brown; her cousins like her brothers: Billie Trotter and James Earl Walker; her sister-in-law: Cynthia Brown, Johnnye O. Dunbar and Sabre L. Teague,; brother-in-law: Hayward Stanley; her son-in-law: Freddie L. Johnson, Sr.; her grandson: Lorenzo D. Martin; and her granddaughter: Mitchelle (Shelly) Martin.
 

She leaves to cherish her precious memories three daughters: Carrie Johnson of Dothan, Alabama, Patricia (Donald) Franklin of Dothan, Alabama and Nina Martine of Miami, Florida; one son: Willie Charles Martin of Dothan, Alabama; grandchildren: Iris Johnson of Dothan, Alabama, Tyrone Martin of O’Fallon, Mo, Kimvatta Martin of Atlanta, Georgia, Freddie Johnson of Dothan, Alabama,  Antonio T. Johnson of Dothan, Alabama and Dr. Freeman (LaRhonda) Culver of Glenpool, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren: Xavier Johnson of Dothan, Alabama, Rosteaua (Adrian) Thomas of Atlanta, Georgia, April (Josh) Bighems of Dothan, Alabama, Treasure Martin of Jacksonville, Florida, Ja’Quaria Johnson of Dothan, Alabama, Isaiah Martin of Dallas, Texas, Turquoise Martin of San Antonio, Texas, Carley Rae Martin and Tanner Martin, Tyler Martin all of O’Fallon, MO, Jaylin Johnson of Dothan, Alabama, Ja’Nayia Howard of Dothan, Alabama, Navadney Brown of Dothan, Alabama, Freedom Winnie Culver and Tyra Julia Culver all of Glenpool, OK; a host of great-great grandchildren that covered five generation; her siblings: Yvette (Robert) Lee of Rochester, New York and Yvonne Russ of Cleveland, Ohio; brothers: William  David Brown of Rochester, New York, Leonard Brown of Rochester, New York, and Willie Cleveland (Helga) Brown of Germany; sister-in-law: Bonnie Branham of Dothan, Alabama and Lillian Brown of Miami, Florida; her best friend: Maude McNeall special like daughter: Jackie Hall; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
