Rita Anna (Paquette) Shaughnessy

Rita Anna Shaughnessy, a beacon of love and strength, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025, at the age of 88.

Born on May 15, 1937, in Massachusetts, Rita's life was a testament to her resilience, warmth, and unwavering commitment to her family. Her final days were spent in Alabama, surrounded by the love and care of those she had touched so deeply throughout her remarkable journey.

Rita's early years in Massachusetts laid the foundation for a life filled with love, laughter, and an enduring sense of community. She was the cherished sister to one brother in Lowell, MA, and one sister in Dracut, MA, both of whom will hold her memory dear. Rita's life was marked by the joy of motherhood as she lovingly raised her three daughters, Maureen (Jim Hajjor) Gibbs, Shelley (Michael) Brooks, and Darlene (Henry) Elie. Her legacy continued to flourish with the birth of her nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy and pride to her life.

The matriarch of a close-knit family, Rita was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Henry W. Shaughnessy, and her second husband, Vito Veneziano. The loss of two grandchildren also weighed heavily on her heart, yet she faced each challenge with grace and fortitude. Rita's ability to find strength in adversity was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Rita's life was a beautiful tapestry of moments that reflected her passion for living fully and her dedication to those she loved. Her warm embrace and infectious smile were sources of comfort and joy to her family and friends. She was a woman of great faith, and her spiritual foundation guided her through life's ups and downs.
