The Reverend Ruby Lee Berry, affectionately known as Reverend Berry, was a beacon of light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Born on September 14, 1936, he embarked on a journey of faith, love, and music that touched countless hearts. On September 10, 2024, Reverend Berry passed away in Dothan, Alabama, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and uplift for generations to come.
Reverend Berry's life was marked by his spirited nature and faith-filled existence. His love for his family was profound and unwavering. Though he was preceded in death by his first wife, Annie Ruth Berry; his son, Jimmy Lewis Berry; stepson, Michael Miller; brothers, Cleveland and Bonnie Berry; and sisters, Inez, Gertrude, Mammie, and Annie Will, he leaves a rich tapestry of love and memories that will be cherished by those who survive him.
Among those who will hold his memory dear are his sister, Mary Bell Jones; brother, Sol Jr. "Buddy" Berry; his children, Ralph (Wanda) Berry, James (Dorothy) Berry, Johnny (Shelley) Berry, Frederick (Moya) Berry, Shun (Tamera) Berry, Carolyn Berry, Louette Johnson (Bernard), and Annie Berry (Steve). His ex-wife, Nettie Miller; stepchildren, Crystal, Lori, Kelly, Keith, Kevin, and Paul Miller; and his very dear and close friend, Mr. Barry McGoughy, also survive him. His life's melody will resonate through the lives of his twenty-seven grandchildren; forty-four great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Reverend Berry began his ministry at Sardis Missionary Baptist Church in 2009 and remained a dedicated member of Patterson Street Freewill Baptist Church until his health no longer allowed him to serve. His unwavering dedication to his faith and community was evident in the way he shared his wisdom and guidance. He was a man who walked with God and led by example, showing us all what it means to live a life of service and devotion.
His love for music was as wide as the ocean and as deep as the soul. Not only did he play the guitar with a passion that ignited the spirit, but he also shared his talent as a member of AZ Stanley and the Bible Tones, among other musical groups. His melodies were a reflection of his loving heart, and they will continue to echo in the memories of all who heard him play.
Reverend Berry was the epitome of a spirited, faith-filled, and loving individual. His presence was a source of comfort and joy to many. He had a unique ability to infuse every moment with meaning, every challenge with hope, and every interaction with kindness. His was a life that exemplified the power of a positive spirit, the strength of unwavering faith, and the beauty of unconditional love.
Reverend Ruby Lee Berry's story is not one of an ending, but a continuous melody of life and faith that will always resonate in the hearts of those he touched. Today, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey well-traveled, and a legacy well-established. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his memory inspire us all to live with a little more spirit, a little more faith, and a whole lot more love.
