Reola Nix Life and Times

Mrs. Reola Nix passed away Thursday, June 20, 2019; visitation for Mrs. Nix will be held Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Scott's Chapel Hill Mortuary from 5 PM to 7 PM.  Funeral service will be Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at Church of Christ Written in Heaven, 4599 Wintergreen Road, Greenwood, Florida 32443, at 1 PM.  Burial will immediately follow the service at the Church of Christ Written in Heaven Cemetery.

Obituary

Reola Williams Nix was born on April 8, 1929 to the late Elliott and Ola Williams.

 Reola attended Jackson County Schools. In her early years, she was an active member of Snow Hill A.M.E Church. She accepted her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ under the leadership of the late Bishop Nathaniel Pollock. As a member of Gethsemane Church of Christ Written in Heaven, she was called as a missionary in 1982. 

On March 18, 1947, she married her sweetheart Mr. Willie Nix, Sr. From this union, they had nine wonderful children. For twenty-five years, Reola worked at Southeast Medical Center in the dietician department. Her hobbies included; cooking, mentoring, preaching, and singing. She was one of the founders of the community Prayer Band Ministry. Reola NEVER met a stranger. Some of her favorite sayings were “Bought sense is better than borrowed sense”, “Can’t never did”, and “God gave me a FIRM!”

She was preceded in death by her parents: Elliott and Ola Williams; her sisters: Mary Jones and Martha Long; her brothers: Elijah and Jerry Williams, Sr. and daughter-in-law: Annie Pearl Nix; and grandchildren: Jermaine Nix and Alicia Nix.

She leaves to cherish her memories and legacy are her dedicated husband of seventy-two years: Willie Nix, Sr; her children: David (Nora) Nix of Dothan, Alabama, Willie Nix, Jr. of Marianna, Florida, Terry Nix of Dothan, Alabama, Gwin (Michael) Bryant of Bartow, Florida, Janice Peters of Gordon, Alabama, Scottie Nix of Dothan, Alabama, Timothy Nix of Gordon, Alabama, Marvin Nix of Lakeland, Florida, and Russell Nix of Dothan, Alabama; adoptive son: Jerome Hightower of Dothan, Alabama; her sister: Bessie Williams of Williamsboro, New Jersey; her dear godchildren: Camila Hardrick of Dothan, Alabama and Jimmy Tiggs of Greenwood, Florida and J.C. Roach of Gordon, Alabama; twenty-four grandchildren; twenty-five great grands and five great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends that she cherished and loved.
