Paul Black Life and Times

On a cold evening Friday, December 15, 1967, Paul Earl Black entered the world, but he brought with him a heart full of warmth that never wavered. Born in Dothan, Alabama, three minutes before his twin, he embraced his role as the eldest of four siblings, all girls, with pride. From an early age, he took it upon himself to protect his sisters no matter the consequences, ensuring they always had someone to stand up for them. He never met a stranger, greeting everyone with kindness, generosity, and an open heart. Whether feeding the hungry, sharing the word of God, or simply making someone smile, Paul lived his life serving others. A true humanitarian and an unwavering advocate for social justice, he believed in lifting others up, speaking for those who could not speak for themselves, and standing firm in his convictions. He was a man of deep faith, carrying his relationship with God in words and how he treated others.

Paul was a free spirit who loved to travel, embracing life entirely and without hesitation. He called Miami, Florida, Orlando, Florida, and Panama City, Florida, home at different times, but his true home was wherever he could share love and laughter. Music was his joy, breakdancing was his talent, and humor was his gift to those around him, often “janking” playing the dozens. He was honest to a fault, and his telltale phrase, "You know what I'm saying?" always gave him away when he tried to stretch the truth. Paul made people feel special like they truly mattered, and he never let an opportunity pass without telling those he loved just how much he cared. He was also an artist, creating intricate drawings that reflected his vibrant spirit and the world as he saw it. His greatest joy was gifting his artwork to his nieces and nephews, leaving them with keepsakes filled with his love and creativity.

Paul was never a man driven by material things. His wealth was measured in the love he gave, the peace he carried, and the faith he lived by. He believed true riches came from a life well-lived, a heart unburdened, and the joy of knowing you had done right by others. He found happiness in the little things: a good conversation, a heartfelt laugh, and the simple peace of mind from trusting God’s plan. His faith was unshakable, his heart was pure, and his love was boundless. He believed in second chances, the beauty of redemption, and finding joy even in the most challenging moments. He carried his burdens gracefully and turned his struggles into testimonies, always trusting that God had a greater plan for him. No matter what life brought his way, he met it with courage, resilience, and a spirit that refused to be broken. His presence was a gift, and the love he gave so freely will live on in the countless lives he touched.
Paul lived with grace and left us with countless beautiful memories.

On Tuesday, January 14, 2025, Paul (age 57) soared into his ultimate freedom, spreading his wings and rising into the eternal embrace of the Lord, where peace knows no end. Though we miss him deeply, his legacy will continue to inspire us. Paul now joins his mother, Annie Murel White, his great grandmother Ruthie Mae Gladden aka “Lil Moma” to whom he was her pride and joy which had part of raising him in eternal rest.

He is survived by his son, Hunter Black of Panama City, Florida; his twin sister, Paula Black of Lawrenceville, Georgia; his sister Sheneatha (Dewayne) Johnson of Dothan, Alabama; his sister Elizabeth Estiverne of Dothan, Alabama; seven nephews, one niece; ten great-nieces and great-nephews; and other relatives and friends. His love will continue to live through them and all who were blessed to know him.
