Ola Moore Life and Times

Ms. Ola Mae Moore was born on December 16, 1925, in Henry County to the late Ike Thomas and Vassie Brackins. Her family’s pillar and a remarkable soul was called to her eternal rest at age 99 on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at her home in Dothan, Alabama surrounded by loved ones.

Ms. Ola Mae confessed faith in Christ at an early age and joined the Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where she was a faithful member for many years until her passing. Throughout the years, she served on various committees within the church: President of the Birthday Calendar Group, President of the Sun Beams, and was the eldest member of the Senior Saints. She was also a member of the Eastern Star Woods Choice Chapter #356 and Ladies Aid Society.

Within the nurturing communities of Henry County, Ms. Ola Mae attended the Rosenwald School where the values of hard work, devotion, and power of community were reinforced. Her love for people and service continued as she worked in the Wiregrass. Ms. Ola Mae was employed at Wex-Tex Manufacturing Company and became a caregiver at The Haven. Her determination to grow and develop personally were clear when she learned to drive later in life and also under the tutelage of the late, Mr. Ardis B. Cotton successfully completed an adult continuing education program. As a mother of six, she instilled the values of faith, family, hard work, honesty, and selflessness in her children. Most importantly, she taught them to love God, love people, and to always forgive others which were also what she referred to as “the keys” to having a long Earthly life. Ms. Ola Mae loved gardening, spending time with her family and reading the Bible and clung to its every word. Her laughter was a balm to the weary, her wisdom a guide to the lost, and her love a warm embrace to all who were blessed to have known her.

Although we mourn her departure, we take solace in knowing that she is in the arms of the Almighty. Ms. Ola Mae is reunited with her beloved family who preceded her in glory: her husband, Otis Moore, her parents, her three sisters: Corine Thomas Bowick, Nellie Thomas Clayton, and Arie Thomas Dozier; her five brothers: Rufus, Moses, Walter, Artis, and Arthur Thomas; and her cherished children: David and Willie James Ashley, and Blondell Ashley Turner.

She leaves to cherish her memory three devoted and loving sons: Roy (Cathy), Connie (Martha), and Mike Shannon Ashley, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, great-great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, and her Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church family.
