Nora Hutchinson Life and Times

It is with both sorrow in our hearts and hope in our spirits that we announce the passing of Nora L. (Salter) Hutchinson, who departed this life on October 7, 2025, in Atlanta, Georgia. She was 76 years old.

A beloved daughter of God, Nora lived a life rooted in faith, humility, and service. Her quiet strength and gentle kindness reflected the heart of Christ, touching every person she met. Through her years of dedication, she gave not only her labor but her love, transforming every space she entered with warmth, grace, and joy.

From a young age, Nora was nurtured in faith at Rocky Mount Baptist Church in Abbeville, Alabama, where her spiritual journey began alongside her mother and grandmother. A devoted member since childhood, she served faithfully on the Usher Committee and as Leader of the Kitchen Committee, pouring her heart into both hospitality and service. Her commitment to God and her church family remained steadfast throughout her life, a reflection of her deep-rooted love for the Lord and the people she served.

Nora also faithfully served as a Team Member at Covenant Methodist Church where her hands and heart worked in unison to create a place of peace, care, and belonging. Her Covenant Methodist Church family held a special place in her heart. They were not merely colleagues but brothers and sisters in Christ who shared in her laughter, her prayers, and her purpose.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Isaac and Cora Salter; her brothers James Ivory Salter and Van Armstrong; and her sister Ann Armstrong.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Roosevelt Hutchinson; her children, Leslie Jackson, Gerald Salter, additionally Roosevelt Hutchinson Jr. and Teresa King Dunlap all of whom she loved deeply and nurtured as her own; her brother, Jerry Lee Salter; her sister, Pam Salter; and her grandchildren Apriccio (Briana) Brown, LaTesha Salter, Jaylon Jackson, Justin Jackson, Gerald Salter Jr., Santoria Dunlap, and Gerald Dunlap Jr. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and many cherished friends who will continue to carry her love in their hearts.

Nora’s faith was steadfast, her smile unforgettable, and her heart immeasurable. She taught all who knew her that true service is not about position, but about purpose. She fulfilled hers beautifully, with grace.

“Well done, good and faithful servant…enter into the joy of your Lord.”
— Matthew 25:23
