Nancy Brewer Life and Times

Nancy Bell Turner Brewer a women whose life was a testament to grace, resilience, and unwavering love, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, just days shy of her 97th birthday. 

Affectionately know as “Momma Nancy” to those who held her dear, she was a beacon of light whose gentle spirit  touched everyone she met. 

A life rooted in faith and family.

Born on May 8, 1929 in Abbeville AL.  Nancy, cherished daughter of the late Mrs. Fannie Lee Cummings Turner and Mr. Cleveland Turner.  From an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, A faith that remained the cornerstone of her life and guided her kind and compassionate nature.  She was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church.

Nancy’s smile was her trademark—bright enough to light up any room and warm enough to fill a soul with pure joy.  She was the epitome of love.  A woman who worked tirelessly and selflessly to provide for and protect her family.

A legacy of Service and Care

A dedicated worker and pillar of the Dothan Community.  Nancy spent several years working at Sterling Restaurant.  However, her true calling was found in the care she provided to others.  Nany was a gifted caregiver who helped raise generations of children, treating each as her own,  Her nurturing hand was a constant for many families including:

The Bishop Family, the Northcutt and Cox Family.

Beyond her work with local families, Nancy was known for her generous heart toward veteran’s and anyone in need.  She possessed a unique ability to make people feel seen and loved—often while sharing a meal featuring her legendary hoe-cakes, biscuits, friend chicken and famous side dishes with onions and tomatoes, which were widely considered, “The Best!”

A Gentle Spirit Remembered

Nancy Bell Turner Brewer leaves behind a legacy of kindness that will continue to inspire those who knew her. She was a woman of quiet strength and immense heart, a “Gentle Spirit” who lived a life of service to God, family and community.  Though she has returned to our heavenly Father and reunited with the souls that have gone on.  Her light remains in the hearts of the many lives she helped shape and the family she loved so dearly.

Nancy was preceded in death by her mother Mrs. Fannie Lee Turner and father Mr. Cleveland Turner.  Siblings—Ethyl Lee Turner Taylor, Ruby Lee Turner Hall (Judge), C.L. Turner, Robert Turner (Clester), Pecola Turner Wilson (R.J.), Otis Fenn Jr., and her son, Johnny Earl Brewer.

Surviving sister, Nettie Thelma.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory, her children:  Irell Geter (late husband Ben), Daniel Brewer, Fannie Mae Brewer, Mary Ruth Brewer (David), Pastor Billy Brewer (Gracie), Silas Bennett Brewer, Jerome Brewer (Louise) and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of additional relatives and friends.
