Mother Mozell Dawsey Whitehurst, born on March 5, 1934, in Grangerburg, Alabama, was the cherished daughter of Edmon Dawsey and Thelma Scott Dawsey. She lived a life full of service, devotion, and affection.
Mother Whitehurst was born and raised in the pastoral landscapes of Houston County, Alabama, where she attended Ashford School. Later, she completed her GED studies at Carver High School. Beyond her academic pursuits, Mother Whitehurst was a nurturing mentor to her children and others imparting wisdom and kindness in every interaction.
She was a lifelong member of Triumph the Church and Kingdom of God in Christ, where her faith was nurtured and where she, in turn, nurtured others.
She held several employment positions in the community of Dothan, but found her true calling in her service as a caregiver – a role in which her innate kindness and compassion truly shone. Always putting others before herself, Mozell was a beacon of light and love to all who knew her. Her radiant smile and friendly nature made her a beloved figure in her community.
Mother Whitehurst married Rubben Whitehurst, Sr. on May 31, 1953, and their loving union lasted an impressive 70 years.
