Merlene Neal Life and Times

Ms. Merlene Neal, age 61, of Dothan, Alabama passed away Sunday, December 20, 2020.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at 1 PM at Georgette L. Scott Memorial Chapel, 814 Headland Avenue Dothan, Alabama 36303.

Merlene Neal was born on March 11, 1959, in Columbia, Alabama, to the late Joe Lee Neal ad Alene Rainey Neal.  She was one of seven siblings.

At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Savior and was a member of Rocky Mt. Freewill Baptist Church in Tomblin, Alabama.  She, later, joined Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Columbia, Alabama.

Merlene worked majority of her adult life in sewing factories in Alabama and Georgia, until her health began to decline.  She was a loving, kind hearted woman who would do anything for anyone.  Her smile and sweet voice would light up a room, especially when she would sing.

Merlene was preceded in death by her late parents; one brother: Archie D. Neal; two sisters: Annie B. Freeman and Tiny Mae Grace; and two sisters-in-law who were very dear to her heart: Jesse Pearl Neal and Diane Neal.

She leaves to cherish her memories, four daughters: Latonia Mitchell, Jessie (Maurice) Henderson, Shaunita (Charles Glenn) Mitchell and Diedra (Johnny Williams) Neal all of Dothan, Alabama; one "son": Effie Jones of Meridian, Mississippi; two brothers: Chevy Lee Neal of Dothan, Alabama and Morgan Neal of Gretna, Florida; one sister: Annie (A.L.) Grace of Columbia, Alabama; three grandsons: Timothy Sanford, Jr., Zyler Watkins and Kadin Glenn; five granddaughters: Shatondrea Mitchell, DeLijah McCree, Ty'Asia Hayes, Paige Williams, and Sky Williams; four great grandchildren: Mae Emma Brown, A.L. Grace, Jr., Joe Freeman, the closest of her many nieces and nephews along with many cousins.

Merlene had one step daughter: Maleeka Culver and two special sisters-in-law, that were very dear to her heart: Margiree Neal and Marv "Lisa" Slack.
