Melvin Jackson, Jr. Life and Times

Mr. Melvin Jackson, Jr., age 73, of Ozark, Alabama passed away Sunday, December 22, 2019.

Visitation will be Friday, January 3, 2020 from 4 PM to 5 PM at the J.L. Trawick Memorial Chapel 1048 Martin Luther King, Jr Ave, Ozark, Alabama.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 11 AM at Friendship AME Church in Ozark, Alabama.

Burial will immediately follow the service at the church's cemetery.

Melvin "Sonny" Jackson, Jr. was born on May 19, 1946 to the late Melvin Jackson, Sr. and Jimmie Mae Jackson.

Melvin graduated from D.A. Smith School class of 1965.  He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War.  After being honorably discharged, Melvin worked at Farley Nuclear Plant and transitioned to work at the Fort Rucker Fire Department.  During this time, he married Mary Sue Barrow on September 10, 1983.  To this union, two children were born: Samuel Cornelius Jackson and Jacqueline Michelle Jackson.  Melvin retired from Fort Rucker Fire Department in 2002.

Melvin Jackson, Jr. was a lifelong member of Friendship A.M.E. Church.

He was called home to be with his Heavenly Father on December 22, 2019. 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife: Mary Sue Jackson; children: Samuel Cornelius Jackson of Bellefonte, PA and Jacqueline Michelle Jackson of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren: Madison Jackson, Mickhi Jackson and Mason Jackson; siblings: Mae Helen Grant and Wilbur (Martha) Jackson of Ozark, AL, and Evelyn Beachem of Dothan, AL, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. A special great nephew: Michael Alexander Barker, Jr.
