Mattie Jewel Chambers graced this world with her presence on Wednesday, June 6, 1934, in Dothan, Alabama.
After a life brimming with faith, joy, and boundless love, she peacefully transitioned to her Heavenly home on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, in Columbus, Georgia in the conform of the home and in the arms of her beloved daughter.
Mattie possessed a heart of pure kindness, offering unwavering support to all who surrounded her. Her deepest treasures were her family, children, and cherished friends. As we honor her remarkable life, we reflect on the wisdom of Ephesians 4:32, "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you."
She is reunited in Heaven with her beloved parents, Henry and Mattie Cummings; her son Michael Green, four brothers, R.C., Willie E., David L., and Johnny C. Cummings; four sisters, Claudia Mae Ash, Uretha Cummings Critten, Jerlene Kelly, and Rebecca Donald, and her son, Michael Green.
Mattie journeyed through life with grace, nurturing a family who felt her tender love and care every day.
She leaves behind a legacy cherished by her children: Delores and John Thomas (Columbus, GA) and Roy Lee Green of Dothan, Alabama. She was a proud grandmother to 11 grandchildren, a great-grandmother to 27, and a great-great-grandmother to 22.
Those blessed to remember Mattie include her daughter and son, Delores Thomas and Roy Lee Green, her sisters: Bernstein Cummings Thomas, Verna Cox (Columbus, GA) , Lena Alford, Audrey Henderson and Josephine Harris of Dothan, AL, special daughter-in-law Sheila Salter, and dear friend Mrs. Dot (Columbus, GA ) along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will carry on her cherished memories.
Mattie's life was a testament to love, and her legacy will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. As we bid farewell to our beloved Mattie Jewel Chambers, may her gentle spirit continue to inspire kindness, compassion, and boundless love in all of us. Her memory will live on, a beacon of warmth and grace, guiding us through life's journey with the same steadfast faith and unwavering love she embodied.
