Mary Ann Newby was born on May 20, 1948 in Madrid, Alabama to Harvey Newby and Lorine Stringer-Newby.
She peacefully departed this earthly life on February 11, 2025 leaving behind cherished memories. She embodied unwavering devotion; sharing warmth and hope as naturally as the sun shares its light. Her life reflected the strength of steadfast faith and limitless capacity of the human heart to love, give and uplift others. Her life serves as a testament to the power of faith, perseverance and divine purpose; reminding us that with God, all things are possible.
Mary Ann graduated from Rehobeth High School before joining the Job Corps, where she gained valuable skills that would shape her future. After completing the program she relocated to Dothan, Alabama where she secured a fulfilling career with Loftin's. Her work was more than just a job, it was an opportunity to connect with others and share her kindness and unwavering faith. Known for her generous heart and radiant smile, Mary Ann left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. She uplifted those around her with her warmth, compassion and steadfast be lifted in God. Often sharing her signature phrase, "I'm blessed in the Lord", as a reminder of her deep faith and gratitude.
She is survived by her devoted son, Ernest Newby whose unwavering love and care brought her great comfort and dedicated daughters Ida Newby and Annie Newby who remained by her side embodying the strength and compassion she instilled in them. Her memory lives on through her grandchildren who filled her life with joy and laughter. She leaves to mourn her beloved granddaughters, Mianca Smith and Daneisha Newby and cherished grandsons: Roytavious Doster, Jazerick Newby and Roydarious Newby. Three special goddaughters: Equilla Brown, Tyrhonda Newby and Makeda Henderson. Each of them carries a piece of her heart, forever touched by her wisdom, love and guidance.
Her legacy continues through her precious great grandchildren: Zamarion McCray, Envy Williams, Serenity Newby and Roytavious Doster, Jr., who will uphold the values she passed down and cherish the love she so freely gave. She also leaves behind her dear sister, Mattie (L.C.) Williams and special sister, Linda Harrison who shared a lifetime of memories and an unbreakable bond of sisterhood. In addition she is lovingly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends whose lives she touched with kindness, generosity and a warm spirit.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Harvey Lee and Lorine Newby, who instilled in her the values of love, strength and perseverance, she also joins her dear grandparents, Ewell and Corine Stringer whose wisdom and guidance shaped the foundation of her life. Among those welcoming her into eternal rest are her cherished sons, Roy Newby, Anthony Newby and grandson, Anthony Lynn whose memories she carried in her heart each day.
She is reunited with her devoted sisters, Gracie Jones and Jean Bell along with loving brothers, Willie D. Newby and Eddie Lee Newby who shared in her journey through life with unwavering support and love. She also joined her uncle, Norman Stringer and an aunt, Lettie B. Stringer whose presence was a source of comfort and inspiration throughout her life. Though they are no longer physically present their spirits remain alive in the cherished memories of those who loved them. Their legacies will continue to be honored by the family and friends she leaves behind.
