Markee Laquan Perez McKnight, the son of the late Charles Lee Brooks and Veronica Denise McKnight, began his life journey on October 1, 1986, in Dothan, Alabama. His early acceptance of Jesus Christ at Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church established the foundation for a life rich in faith, love, and enduring connections.
A proud graduate of Northview High School, Markee's educational journey represents just one chapter in a life brimming with experiences and adventures. Renowned for his daredevil antics and his belief in possessing nine lives, he often found himself - much to his family's chagrin and later amusement - visiting the emergency room during his eventful summers. His quick wit and boundless energy, complemented by the sparkle in his grey eyes, made him a captivating presence in any gathering. Markee was a reservoir of knowledge, frequently engaging in spirited debates with a playful stubbornness that endeared him to both friends and family. His knack for fixing things and providing assistance earned him a reputation as the go-to problem-solver, a role he embraced with both pride and diligence.
Markee concluded his earthly journey on June 11, 2025, in the same loving community where he was born. Although his passing followed the heartfelt farewells to his father, brother Charles Jerome Duncan, grandmother China Carol Brooks, great-grandmother Thelma C. Dawsey, grandfather Billie Taplin, and beloved cousins Daniel, Sandra, and Attrick Dawsey, Markee's legacy remains one of unwavering strength and the joy he brought to all who knew him.
His vibrant spirit lives on through his devoted wife, Resheda McKnight, and his cherished children: Marquez, Shankevia, Makyla, Chelsea, and Cali McKnight. He is also survived by his bonus children, Gabriel, Z'John, and Lyric Jackson. The tapestry of his life is further enriched by the joyful smiles of his grandchildren, Kaymen and Alaya.
Markee is cherished in the hearts of his family, including his mother, Veronica McKnight, and his bonus mom, Stephanie Brooks. His grandmother, Lillie Ruth Taplin, along with numerous siblings - Jazzilyn Walker, Jaquia McKnight, Jason (Sherri) May, Victoria (Raymond) Thomas, Terrence (Tori) Reeves, Tony Reeves, Antewon (Brittany) May, Brittany (Ontriel) Adams, LaCaitlin Warren, Jazz Mitchell, Antonio May, Anthony (Stephanie) Duncan, and Brandon Duncan - all hold his memory close. His cousins, who were like brothers: Brandon McKnight, Zavier Franklin, Jamie Dawsey, Relle Franklin, and Narte Dawsey - fondly remember their special bond. A loving circle of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews also grieve his loss while celebrating the richness of his life.
To have known Markee was to have known a man of immeasurable warmth and vitality. His presence, love, and smile were gifts that he freely shared, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those he encountered. As we bid farewell to Markee Laquan Perez McKnight, we are comforted by the knowledge that his spirit lives on in the cherished memories we hold and in the legacy of love he leaves behind. His journey may have concluded, but the story of his impact is far from over.
