Lorine McDowell, a beacon of love and warmth in the lives of many, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on February 3, 1935, in the heart of Dothan, Alabama, Lorine's journey began as a cherished daughter to Elizabeth Parrish and Big Jim McDowell. She was raised in Dothan, Alabama, where she was one of seven spirited children, and where his story would unfold to touch countless hearts.
Lorine's life was marked by an unwavering devotion to family, a trait that was evident from her early years. She was a pillar of strength and support, not just to her siblings, but to all the children in her extended family and beyond. Known affectionately as 'Big Mama' to many, Lorine's nurturing spirit knew no bounds. Her love for children was profound, and she played a significant role in raising not only her own kin but also any child in need of care and affection.
Among the many joys in Lorine's life, her daughter Murline McDowell shine the brightest. Their special bond was a testament to Lorine's capacity for love and dedication. Her fondness for laughter and light-hearted moments was often shared with Murline as they enjoyed their favorite TV shows, "Big Mama's House" and "Tom and Jerry." Lorine's simple pleasures also included her cherished "Snuff" (Bitter Dental) and a good cup of coffee.
Lorine's legacy is carried on through her beloved granddaughter, Yolanda (Roger) Cassidy; her grandson, Andre McDowell; and her special great-granddaughters, Kavecia and Ge'montae Horne, Nariah, Sasha, and Khalessi Cassidy. Her memory will also be cherished by her great-grandsons, DeAndre McDowell and Roger Cassidy IV; her great-nieces, Pamela and Tarry Wright; and her great-nephew, Eddie Wright. Lorine's love will continue to flourish through her great-great-nephews, Olojuwon Miree, Carey (Turtleman) Wright, Theodore (Nuk) Thomas, and Anthony Wright; her great-great-nieces, Ursola Miree, Brenna, and Ashli Wright and Hannah Thomas; and her great-great-great-nephews, Major and King, and a great-great-great-niece, Zy Wright.
Lorine's life was also enriched by the companionship of her special friends, Mary Lee Franklin and Arthur (Monk) Baxter, along with a host of cousins and loving friends who became an integral part of her extended family. Each of these individuals played a unique role in Lorine's life, providing friendship, laughter, and support through the years.
