Lorene Woods Life and Times

Lorene Johnson Woods, a beacon of love and strength in her community, passed away peacefully of natural causes on April 24, 2025, at the age of 73. Lorene was a lifelong resident of Alabama, where she was born on December 29, 1951, to her beloved parents, the late Morrie and Gertrude Johnson. Her presence was a gift to all who knew her, and her memory will be cherished forever.

Lorene was a proud graduate of Headland High School, where she formed lasting friendships and laid the foundations for a life filled with faith, family, and service. She embraced her faith early on and it remained a guiding light throughout her life, providing strength and comfort in times of joy and sorrow. After completing her education, Lorene entered the workforce and dedicated many years to Sony and the Children's Home before her well-deserved retirement. Her work ethic and commitment to helping others left an indelible mark on her colleagues and those she served.

In her personal life, Lorene found love with her former spouse, James Woods, and from this union, she was blessed with two devoted children, James A. Woods and Kelly Maness. Lorene's family was the center of her world, and she took immense pride in their accomplishments. Her love extended to her stepson, Chris Woods, who she embraced as her own. Lorene's role as a mother and grandmother was one she cherished deeply, and her guidance and wisdom will be carried forward by her six grandchildren: Taiyanna Roberts, Rashawn Taylor, Haley Maness, Krystian Maness, Malian Maness and Khloe Maness and four great-grandchildren.

Lorene was the heart of a large and loving family. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Johnny R. Johnson, James M. Johnson, Jerry Benton, and Gracie J. Grimsley. Her memory will be kept alive by her surviving sister, Martha (Walter Jr.) Brown, and brothers, Samuel Johnson, John R. (Lilly) Johnson, and Billy Ray (Annie) Benton. She also leaves behind a caring circle of in-laws, including Denise Johnson, Mary Francis Johnson, and Jolone Woods (Charles) Parks, who will miss her dearly.

Lorene's life was a testament to the power of community and the bonds of kinship. She was a friend to many, and her generosity and spirit of service knew no bounds. Her passing is deeply felt by her extended family, including her cousins, nieces, nephews, and the many friends she made over the years. Special thanks are extended to Linday K. Edwards, Margaret Johnson, Bessie (Craig) Mitchell, and Betty Jean Easterling for their unwavering support and friendship.

Lorene's legacy is one of love, faith, and perseverance. Her smile could light up a room, and her kindness touched the lives of everyone she met. As we say goodbye to this remarkable woman, we take comfort in the knowledge that her spirit will continue to guide us. She lived her life with grace and left the world a better place for having been in it.

A service to honor Lorene's life will be held at a date and time to be announced, where family and friends can gather to share memories and celebrate the profound impact she had on us all. Lorene Johnson Woods will be laid to rest in the soil of her beloved Alabama, surrounded by the natural beauty of the place she called home.
