Letoya Dianna Saffold, aka Ku’Uawaai Tota Li, was born on July 18, 1982, in Fort Walton Beach, Florida to the late Isaiah Saffold and Mamie Small-McCory. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Burdeshaw Street Baptist Church in her younger years where she was very active in the choir and youth department. After relocating she attended several local assemblies. When home she attended Grace Community Church with her mother. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Tallahassee, Florida. Letoya spent her early years in Frankfurt, Germany. She was educated in the Dothan school system graduating from Northview High School in 2000.
She attended Stillman College and the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa Alabama majoring in Journalism and Theater. Letoya studied nursing at Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. At the time of her death Letoya was employed by the State of Florida. She previously worked in the prison system in North Carolina and Bryce Hospital in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
The stage light dimmed one final time as we bid farewell to Letoya Dianna Saffold a gifted actress, devoted daughter and sister.
She passed away peacefully in Tallahassee, Florida on November 20, 2024, at the age of forty-two.
Letoya found her passion for theater early in life. Her commanding presence and remarkable talent captive audiences in every role she performed. She had an extraordinary ability to connect with others on and off stage.
Beyond her life in the spotlight, Letoya was a source of inspiration to many. Her generosity, warmth, and unwavering support for other made her a treasured friend and mentor. She was very devoted to her mother and sister whom she loved very much.
She is survived by her mother Mamie Small-McCory (Benjamin) of Dothan, Alabama and her sister, Amika Saffold of Jacksonville, Florida; stepsisters: Kimberly Goodwin of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Tamika McCory of Alexander, Virginia; step brother: Benjamin McCory, Jr. of Dumfries, Virginia; aunts and uncles: the Reverend Henry Small (Marcia) of Dothan, Alabama, Steve Small of Columbus, Georgia, Mark Small of Dothan Alabama, King Solomon Saffold of Tampa Florida, DC Saffold of Marianna, Florida, Dorothy Cogman of Dothan, Alabama, Semetha Colvin of Dothan, Alabama, Mary Carroll of Dothan Alabama, Lueritha Lang of Dothan Alabama, Twanda Small of Dothan, Alabama, Rosie Small-Fields of Orange Parks, Florida, Shirley Small of Atlanta, Georgia, and Essie Saffold Bryant (Wayne) of Orlando Florida; a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Isaiah Saffold; grandparents: Jimmie and Willie Bell Small, Dennis and Versie Saffold; aunts and uncles: Saletha Small, Emma Small, Ruthie Saffold, Frank Small, Bobby Small, Earnest Small, Jimmie Small, Jr., Dennis Saffold, Lonnie Saffold, and James Elbert; and cousins, Keith Small, Justin Small, and Aaron Small.
