Leroy Christmas, III Life and Times

Leroy Christmas, III was a symbol of hope and strength, embodying a life imbued in love, service, and quiet resilience. Born on May 26, 1960, to the esteemed Carrie Bell Thomas Christmas and the late Leroy Christmas, Jr. in Dothan, Alabama.

Leroy embarked on a journey that profoundly impacted countless lives with his generosity of spirit. His early years unfolded within the warm embrace of a close-knit community, where he absorbed the values of hard work and compassion from his family. As the firstborn of his loving parents, Leroy - a man of honor and virtue - carved a path that was both admirable and inspiring.

Upon graduating from Northview High School in 1979, he devoted himself to serving his country by enlisting in the Army Reserve. His nine years in the U.S. armed forces were characterized by unwavering dedication to his fellow soldiers and a profound love for his nation, reflecting his steadfast sense of duty. Following his military service, Leroy continued to exemplify a strong work ethic, establishing himself as a reliable and valued employee at the Meadow Gold Ice Cream factory until he faced health challenges that led to his disability. Despite these challenges, Leroy's spirit remained unbroken. His stories of resilience and courage inspired a new generation, reminding them of the importance of perseverance and service. Leroy's legacy of dedication and kindness continues to impact all who have the privilege of knowing him, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of his community.

Leroy embraced Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at a tender age and subsequently became a member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. There, he found solace in the warm community that nurtured his faith and encouraged his spiritual growth. Leroy's journey of faith continued to inspire those around him, as he consistently demonstrated compassion and kindness through his formative years.

The chapters of Leroy's life convey more than mere narratives of service and dedication; they resonate with the heart and artistry of a man affectionately known as Bubba. His fervor for music, along with the joy he derived from playing cards and dominoes, was matched only by his gentle disposition. Leroy was a kindhearted and reserved individual who prioritized his family above all else while readily extending a helping hand to others in need. It was often said that to know Leroy was to love him, a sentiment that profoundly reflected the experiences of all who were fortunate enough to have him in their lives.

In tribute to Leroy's remarkable journey and the profound legacy he leaves behind, we embrace the wisdom of Ralph Waldo Emerson: "The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well." Leroy Christmas, III truly embodied these timeless ideals, significantly touching the lives of many through his selfless actions and unwavering spirit.

Predeceasing Leroy in the great journey beyond is his father: Leroy Christmas, Jr.; along with his cherished nephews: Raheem Baker and Doward Baker. After 64 years of a life richly woven with experiences, he finished his final earthly chapter in the book of life on February 11, 2025, in the serene embrace of Belleville, Illinois.

Leroy Christmas, III leaves behind an enduring legacy of kindness and unwavering determination that will be forever etched in the hearts of his beloved mother: Carrie Bell Thomas Christmas of Dothan, Alabama; his devoted sisters: Alice Christmas and Curlene (Russell) Hodge of Dothan, Alabama; Cheryl Christmas (Sheldon) Scott of Belleville, Illinois; and Karen Christmas (Marvin) Spencer of Helena, Alabama; as well as his brothers: Lamar Glenn and Freddie Glenn of Dothan, Alabama. His memory will also be cherished by his adored nephews: Kelvin (Shanae) Coleman of Farmington, Michigan; Derrick Baker of Dothan, Alabama; Bryse Scott of Sacramento, California; and Marvin Spencer, Jr. (“MJ”) of Helena, Alabama. Additionally, he is remembered fondly by his cherished nieces: Alicia Garrison and Nafishia Glenn Cummings of Dothan, Alabama; Cherelle (Montrae) Montgomery; and Chelsea (Josh) Roberts, of Belleville, Illinois. His adored great-nieces - Taylor, Noel, Celeste, Brielle, and Jaiya - and great-nephews, Kaden and Kylon, will eternally draw inspiration from the brilliance of his exemplary life.

His life story also echoes with the love of his extended family, including his Uncles: Levi (Loujean) Thomas, Billy (Thelma) Thomas, and Matthew Thomas. Along with his Aunts: Esther Marie Christmas (William “Bill” Spencer) Pryor, Gloria Stalling, Mary Thompson, Brenda Singletary, and Marie Thomas; a host of other relatives and friends - each a treasured part of the tapestry that is his family's history.

We not only honor a life that once was but also to celebrate a legacy that continues to illuminate our lives. His spirit will persist in the hearts of all he influenced, guiding us through the memories of his unwavering dedication, love, and the quiet strength that characterized his existence. May we find solace in the knowledge that Leroy's journey was one of profound purpose, with his impact on this world defined by the love he shared and the lives he enriched.
