Lenice Marie Daniels graced this earth with her sassy presence on March 20, 1952. She was born in Dothan, Alabama to a strong woman of faith, the late great Ruth Daniels and J. T. Fluker. Lenice went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 14, 2022 with her devoted mother Ruth Daniels welcoming her with open arms. We can see them now walking around Heaven with Mom showing her around.
Lenice graduated from Dothan High school in 1970. She was in the famous Carver High School Marching Band and the ROTC Band at Dothan High School, where she played the clarinet. In addition, she was in the Dothan High School Choir. Shortly after graduation, she married James Edward Ray, Sr. and to this union a son, James Jr. was born. Lenice relocated to Atlanta, GA in 1980 where she attended Bryman School of Nursing. After graduating at the top of her class, she provided private duty care for several prominent patients in the metro Atlanta area. When her primary patient transitioned to be with the Lord, she started a career with Delta Airlines Gate Gourmet food catering services. Lenice united with John Thomas and to this union another son was born, Sterling Marcellus Daniels-Thomas.
Lenice was an impeccable cook who prepared the best Mac and Cheese on the planet. She would invite her family over early for dinner; however, all of her guest knew dinner wouldn’t be ready until 8 pm because Lenice was a late riser. Her favorite phrase was “I don’t do mornings!” And she wouldn’t allow you eat ANYTHING until all the food was done. So, we would wait patiently because we knew it would be worth the wait.
She had a firecracker persona but was as sweet as one of her upside-down pineapple cakes if she liked you. She was one of the best narrators on earth and would keep you on the phone for hours, then end a call with “any who”. Lenice was an active member of Butler Street Baptist Church for many years. Her love for God was displayed in her angelic voice. She often sang “Precious Lord” at various church functions and funerals, especially those of family members and close friends.
Lenice endured a multitude of trials throughout her life; however, she never allowed her circumstances to change her personality and her expectation of others. This outlook prevailed through any storm because of her close and intimate relationship with the Lord. She knew she was beautifully and wonderfully made by our Father. As she would often say, “I am fancy!”
Lenice is now in heaven and has earned the highest gift that she could receive. The gift of eternal life. (John 3:16) Lenice has been fully restored and is rejoicing and signing in her songbird voice with her mom.
Lenice leaves to cherish her memory, her two handsome, charismatic, and intelligent sons: James Edward (Antionette Pope) Ray, Jr. and Sterling Marcellus (Kesi) Daniels-Thomas; five grandchildren: Kierra, Kamari, Jasmine, and Jada Ray; her namesake, Anastasia Lenice Daniels-Thomas; two great grandchildren; a loving, devoted nephew, Byron Beachem; four siblings: Bruce H. (Omar) Daniels of Atlanta, GA; Diane Roberson of Enterprise, AL, Harold Daniels (Marie) Daniels of Atlanta, GA, Letetia Daniels (Michael) Jackson; two special first cousins who were devoted to her, George “Bro” Jones and Bobby Lee Trawick and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord!” II Corinthians 5:8
