Larry Ford

Mr. Larry Ford, age 72, of Dothan, Alabama passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2022.

Drive through visitation will be Friday, March 11, 2022 from 4 PM to 6 PM at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 1 PM at Stringer Street AME Church, 1900 Stringer Street, Dothan, Alabama 36303.

Burial will immediately follow the service at Gates of Heaven Cemetery.

Larry Hugh Ford was born on November 13, 1949, to the late Jessie Ford and Ed Cox. He was a lifelong resident of Dothan, Alabama. On Tuesday, March 8, 2022, Larry Hugh Ford, husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend peacefully transitioned from this earthly life to eternity at the age of 72.

Larry was a proud graduate of Carver High School Class of 1968. He was a dedicated employee for many years at Gates Power Drive and Dothan Country Club. In his later years, Larry was a successful entrepreneur; as he owned a lawn care service and faithfully served the needs of the community. Larry accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and enjoyed serving in multiple ministries at church as well as in the community. He was a member of the Wiregrass Elks Lodge #810, Associate member of the Women Missionary Society, a lifelong member of Stringer Street AME Church, where he served with the Sons of Allen and was a member of the male chorus. 

Larry always had a smile on his face and was willing to help others. He was a generous man whom loved to fish, loved music, played the drums in high school and was the life of the party. He is best known for his culinary skills including his delicious collard greens and pecan pies.

Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Jessie Ford and father, Ed Cox. His brothers, Preston Butts, Jackie Ford and Homer Lee Cox. His stepchildren, Rhonda Balton and Steven Balton.

Larry is survived by his wife, Brenda Ford, daughter Vanessa Ford, son, Larry Ford, stepdaughters, April Potter, Charlotte Hicks (Mark), Lela Cooper (Arthur), step son Howard Balton. His siblings, Nettie Ree Cox and Willie Cox. His grandchildren Kourtlyn and Kamora Ford, Randall Baylor, Brandon Warner, Mark Hicks Jr.,Crystina Penn, Amani Cooper, Kenneth Balton Jr., Kenise Balton, Kenya Balton, and Gabriel and Emmanuel Bright. A host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
