Larry Donnell Brackins, a devoted father, loving husband, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at Hartford Health Care on November 2, 2023. Born in Dothan, Alabama, on May 19, 1952, Larry was a beacon of faith, love, and strength, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of all those he encountered.
Larry was the beloved son of Jean Allen Coleman and the late LeaMon Brackins, Sr. Raised in a family that valued faith, Larry accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. His faith was a guiding light throughout his life, leading him to become a valued member of New Life in Jesus Ministry.
Larry was a product of the Dothan City School System, where he received his early education. He was known for his dedication to learning and his commitment to self-improvement. Throughout his life, Larry embodied the words of Benjamin Franklin: "An investment in knowledge pays the best interest."
He was a pillar of strength in his family, providing love, guidance, and support. Larry was preceded in death by his father: LeaMon Brackins, Sr., his grandparents: Lessie Mae and Willene Coleman, Sr.; his brothers: LeaMon Brackins, Jr., and Kelvin Brackins, Sr.; and his uncles: Willene Coleman, Jr., LC Coleman, Jerry Coleman, Johnny Coleman and Leon Coleman.
Larry is survived by his loving mother, Jean Brackins, his devoted wife: Karen Brackins, and his cherished children: Katina Brackins (John) McKenzie, Teah Doyle (Eric) Douglas, Aisha Dozier, Latonya Lewis, Demetrice Brackins, Larry Reese, Larry (Kehli Trice) Brackins, Jr., Larry Durrell (Latoya) Brackins, and Michael Martin. He was a proud grandfather to seventeen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Larry's memory will also be treasured by his aunts: Teresa (Randy) McNealy and Willie Mae Hall; his uncle: Joel (Mable) Coleman; his in-laws: Billie Ann Jackson, Cindy (Johnny) Turner, Katrina Boykin, Mary Partridge, Retha Martin, Steve Martin, and Lacy Martin; as well as countless nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Larry's life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and family. His legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. As Albert Pike once said, "What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal."
May Larry's soul rest in eternal peace, and may his enduring spirit continue to guide and inspire us all.
