Lamar Hodge Life and Times

Lamar Hodge was born on January 22, 1953, in Gainesville, Georgia, to Johnnie-Mae and WC Hodge. He grew up in Dothan, Alabama with his seven siblings; Lucrecia Hodge, Eugene Hodge, William Hamp Hodge, Jaqueline Hodge-Williams, Leon Hodge, Rudon Hodge, and Rebecca Pearson. From a humble beginning, Lamar grew into a man whose presence and character left a lasting mark on everyone he met. At the age of 18, Lamar left Alabama and made his way to Newark, New Jersey, where he created a life built on determination and hard work. He began a career in truck driving, an endeavor that he became so passionate about that he ended up owning five trucks of his own and continued driving until 2015. His work ethic was the reflection of a man who never did anything halfway.

In 1971, Lamar met Mary Jones, and from the moment they met, something special was set into motion. The two fell in love and married in 1974, and over the next two decades built a beautiful family -- bringing five children into the world. In 1997, Lamar met Maudie Dwight, who had been by his side ever since. In 2010, the two settled into a home in Jonesboro, Georgia, where Lamar spent his later years doing exactly what he loved - outwalking people half his age, riding his bike through the neighborhood, and washing his cars every other day without fail.

Lamar was a devoted Lakers fan and a man who was known to be the best dressed man at every event. You would never catch him without a fresh jersey and a brand new pair of sneakers. He loved his dogs, Kobe, Gigi and Baby, who were as much a part of his family as anyone. Those who knew him will never forget his vibrant smile and his one-of-a-kind voice -- a voice so distinctive that nearly everyone who loved him has tried, at one point or another, to imitate it. Lamar was devoted, compassionate, loyal and honest.

He had a rare gift for impacting anyone who crossed his path.

Lamar is survived by his siblings, Lucrecia Hodge, Eugene Hodge, and Jaqueline Hodge-Williams; his five children, Lamarr (Renee) Hodge, Crystal Alicea-Hodge, Tanisha Hodge, Keir Hodge, and Cotina Hodge; and his eight grandchildren, Kai Hodge, Michael Alicea Jr., Rayleighn Davila, Dary Hodge-Davila, Oriana Thomas, Keir Johnay Hodge, Eriyn White and Cierstyn White. Throughout his life, Lamar formed lasting friendships and created memories with people who became family to him. He shared a close friendship of more than 40 years with Oyama Scott, a bond rooted in loyalty, laughter, and years of unforgettable moments. He also spent countless days enjoying life and good company with his dear friend, Rudie Boulware. Lamar shared a special bond with his nephew, Kenny Barnes, whose love, loyalty, and constant presence meant more to him than words could express. In addition to his immediate family, Lamar was blessed with a host of loving relatives and dear friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. Lamar was not just loved but truly cherished and the spirit he brought into this world will be felt forever.
