Kevin Barkley Life and Times

Kevin Bernard Barkley, known affectionately as Kevin to his friends and family, passed away on November 24, 2024, in Dothan, Alabama. Born on October 11, 1964, in Blakely, Georgia, Kevin's zest for life and infectious laughter left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was a beloved son, brother, father, and friend, whose memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He cherished every moment of life with laughter, dancing and thanksgiving.

Kevin's early years were spent in the warmth of Blakely, Georgia, where he attended Early County Elementary School. As a teenager, he moved to Dothan and became a proud graduate of Dothan High School, Class of 1983. His sense of adventure led him to join the United States Army in 1984, alongside his lifelong best friend, Frankie Peterman. His dedication to service continued with four years in the Navy, a testament to his passion and commitment to his country.

After his honorable military service, Kevin returned to civilian life, carrying with him the discipline and camaraderie he had learned. He was the eldest of five, a brother among brothers, as well as four stepbrothers, setting an example of leadership and care. His work history and involvement in various associations showcased his willingness to lead and his ability to bring people together.

Kevin's interests were as broad and vibrant as his personality. He was the life of every party, ensuring that laughter and joy were never in short supply. Those who knew him will remember his funny anecdotes, friendly demeanor, and passionate spirit. Kevin's ability to light up a room was unparalleled, and his presence will be profoundly missed by many.

Left to honor Kevin's legacy is his son, Kevin McCloud of Wetumpka, Alabama, who will carry forward his father's love and larger-than-life spirit. Kevin's memory will also be treasured by his siblings: Christopher (Rhonda) Barkley of Dothan, Alabama, Noble Halona (Lamochatte) Bey of Warner Robins, Georgia, Sheila Myles of Dothan, Alabama, Freddy (Shondra) Myles of Ashford, Alabama, Calvin H. Cummings of Union Springs, Alabama, Donald Cummings of Detroit, Michigan, David Cummings of Dothan, Alabama, and Harold (Joanne) Cummings of Springs, Texas. His long-term soulmate, Millie Davis, and a host of aunts, uncles which includes, Christine Covington of Dothan, Alabama, Marie Hart of Atlanta, Georgia, James (Jean) of Boston, Massachusetts, Jewel McDaniel of Blakely, Georgia; full of life he leaves cherished memories to his nieces and nephews: Sehoy (Cierra) Bey, Parris (Veronica) Bighems, Paige (Levar) Goods, Joshua (April) Bighems, Fredisha (JJ) Freeman, Tashondra Myles, Maryann Myles, Zaccheus Myles and Kiya Cummings; and numerous great nieces and nephews. Kevin was the life of every part and his presence will be greatly missed.

Kevin was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel Barkley and Juanita Cummings Bryant; his grandparents, Ouida (Watson) McDaniels, Willie Mae and Jimmy Lee Barkley; a aunt, Ludi Respress; and a uncle, Maurice McDaniel, Sr. They, along with his cherished family members who remain, tell the story of a man deeply rooted in love and family ties.
