Mrs. Katherine Lampley Woods was born on May 8, 1927, to the union of J. B. and Rachel Lampley in Newville, Alabama. Katherine was loved by many and affectionately known as "Kat."
Excelling in her education, she graduated from Henry County Training School in 1945, earning her high school diploma.
Katherine accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was a faithful member of Rocky Mount Baptist Church for over ninety years. In the early years of the 80s and 90s, she served in many positions, including President of the Missionary Board and devoted Mother of the Church.
In 1947, Katherine married the love of her life, Lonzie Woods, Sr. Together, they built a beautiful family. Katherine was a devoted mother to their four children: Lonzie Jr., James Earl, Willie Herbert, and Jolane (Ann). She instilled in them kindness and the importance of family.
Katherine was a dedicated worker at West Point-Pepperell, known for her meticulous craft and unwavering work ethic. She passionately served her community, extending her kindness as a caregiver to those in need. Her heart for service also shone through her volunteer work at The Newville Senior Citizen Center, where her warmth and cheerful spirit brightened the lives of many. Katherine found joy in cooking, sewing, and caring for her garden, much like she did her family. She cherished her loved ones deeply and embraced life with gratitude and a vibrant smile that inspired all who knew her. Her tireless dedication as a skilled-worker, daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend leaves a legacy of wisdom, love, and compassion.
Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, Lonzie Woods, Sr., parents, J. B. and Rachel Lampley, brothers Willie and Robert Lampley, sisters Lissie Alexander and Mary Reynolds, and daughter-in-law Merlinda Woods.
Katherine transitioned to her heavenly home on Sunday, January 12, 2025.
She leaves to cherish her wonderful memories: four children, Lonzie Jr., James Earl, Willie Herbert Woods, and Jolane (Charles) Parks; eighteen grandchildren, forty-one great-grandchildren, and sixteen great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and close relatives. She also leaves a devoted bonus daughter and son-in-law, Willene and Curtis Randall; a beloved caregiver and dearly loved family friend, Patricia Williams; and a special friend, Malawa Adams.
