Johnny, fondly known as "Peaches," peacefully passed away and entered Heaven's gates on July 28, 2024, shortly after celebrating his 83rd birthday. Hailing from his cherished hometown of Dothan, Alabama, he leaves behind a legacy as a beloved husband, father, sibling, uncle, cousin, friend and valued member of the Dothan community.
He was preceded in eternal rest by his devoted wife, Essie Bell Williams Watson, mother, Ethel Mae Rhymes, father, Johnny Benjamin James, brother Billy Watson and sister Patricia Ann Hollis.
Johnny was recognized for his impeccable style, well-kept cars, and unwavering willingness to offer financial guidance, emphasizing independence and wise choices. He was a man with a giving heart, firm convictions and had deep family bonds and strong childhood ties. As Johnny matured, he served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves and settled in New Jersey, where he dedicated his career to Greystone Psychiatric Hospital, retiring as the head cook.
Johnny always spoke proudly of his children, who mirrored him in looks, character and accomplishments. His children held a special place in his heart which is evidenced by the numerous amounts of pictures that are posted in his garage for all to see and was excited about his first grandchildren.
Johnny is survived by his daughters Lisa Mobley-Blake (William), Rasheeda Watson-Baggett (James), Portia Smith (Tremaine), and son Johnny Watson, Jr. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Noni Lyriq and Kaidence Malachi Smith and is remembered by his brother George Watson (Liz), nieces Sabrina Jean Hollis and Fatima Rakia Humphrey, nephew George Watson, Jr., numerous cousins, relatives, classmates and dear friends.
