Mr. Johnny Dean, Sr., age 78, of Headland, Alabama passed away Sunday, December 13, 2020.
Drive through visitation will be Friday, December 18, 2020 from 3 PM to 5 PM at the funeral home.
Graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 1 PM at St. Peter AME Church Cemetery in Headland, Alabama.
Mr. Johnny C. Dean, Sr. was born on August 30, 1942, in Headland, Alabama, to Mr. Eular C. Dean and Mrs. Lowdell Warren Dean. He confessed his belief in Christ at an early age and united with St. Peter A.M.E. Church in Headland, Alabama.
Johnny was educated in Henry County School systems. After graduating from Headland High School, he attended Selma University in Selma, Alabama. While at Selma University, he was drafted for the United States Army. After completing two years in the military, he returned to Selma University and earned an Associate Degree. Johnny was the captain of the Selma University Bulldogs Basketball Team. Also, he attended LeMoyne-Owens College in Memphis, Tennessee.
In 1968, Johnny married the love of his life: Lula B. Coleman; to this union, three children were born.
Johnny was preceded in death by his mother: Mrs. Lowdell Dean; father: Mr. Eular C. Dean; two sisters: Mrs. Nora Jackson and Mrs. Eula Mae Rhodes; one brother: Mr. Charles Edwards Dean; and his oldest son: Jarvis F. Dean.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife: Lula C. Dean of Selma, Alabama; daughter: Yolanda G. Dean of Selma, Alabama; son: Johnny C. Dean, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia; three grandchildren: Brian (Markeya) Lane of Selma, Alabama, Staussie J. Dean Lamar of San Diego, California, and Thomas McCants, III of Selma, Alabama; four great grandchildren: Brian Lane, Jr., Caleb Lane, Azaria Lane, and Omar Lane all of Selma, Alabama; two sisters: Sarah Thomas and Brenda Jackson both of Headland, Alabama; four brothers: Daniel Dean, Scotty Dean, Kenneth Dean all of Headland, Alabama and MottLee (Emma) Dean of Dothan, Alabama and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
