John Stephens Life and Times

It is with heavy hearts and tearful eyes that we announce the passing of John W. Stephens, who was called home to his final resting place on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at the age of 88. John passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

John was born in Clio, Alabama, to the late Marcus Stephens and Loa Griffin-Stephens. He was blessed to be a part of a large and loving family, with five siblings: John Henry Stephens, Joe Lee Stephens, Louis Stephens, the late Roy Lee Stephens, and Juanita Stephens-Dickinson. John was a true craftsman and a skilled mechanic by trade, excelling in mathematics and having a passion for working and creating with his hands.

Throughout his life, John had the fortune of meeting his soulmate, the late Lillie B. Stephens. Their love was a beacon of light that continued to shine even after her passing. John was also blessed with a beautiful family, including his children: Mark Stephens, Sarah Jones, James Otis Jones, Bobby K. Jones, and the late Patty Jean and Johnny Stephens. The Lord showered John with a host of grandchildren, including Ashley Bruins, Aaron Jones, Margo Jones, Sean Jones, Brian Jones, Jason, Melody, Dustin, Lamar, Antonio, Mary, Lillie B, Bobby Junior, and a host of cherished friends and family.

John's journey through life was marked by transitions, challenges, and obstacles, but he faced them all with unwavering positivity and kindness. He was a master storyteller, always having a great story to share with his grandchildren, friends, and family. The laughter and wisdom stemming from his experiences and narratives will be forever cherished and remembered.

In addition to his love for his family and storytelling, John had a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature. He was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed the serenity of fishing. His unwavering faith as a devoted Christian was a guiding light in his life. He found solace and inspiration in the songs of his favorite musical artists, such as The Williams Brothers, The Canton Spirituals, and many more.

John W. Stephens leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and laughter. He is survived by his adoring grandchildren and children, who will carry his memory in their hearts forever. John's spirit lives on in the countless lives he touched and the stories he shared. May he rest in eternal peace, reunited with his beloved Lillie, and may his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to us all.
