Mr. John McCoy, age 78, of Ashford, Alabama passed away Sunday, December 20, 2020.
Drive through visitation will be Thursday, December 24, 2020 from 1 PM to 5 PM at the funeral home.
Graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at 1 PM at Mt. Carmel Church Cemetery.
Mr. John Edward McCoy was born September 23, 1942, in Ashford, Alabama, to the late Mr. Mack and Essie Mae McCoy. He was a devoted deacon of Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Ashford, Alabama. He proudly served in the United States Army, in the Vietnam War, hence the nickname "Sarge". He also served as a councilman for the city of Ashford, for twenty plus years.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Mr. Mack and Essie Mae McCoy; three brothers: Mr. Milton Lewis McCoy, Mr. Mack Nelson McCoy, and Mr. Willie McCoy; three sisters: Mrs. Jessie Lee Frazier, Mrs. Ella Faire Cook, and Mrs. Pauline Underwood.
He leaves to cherish precious memories, his beautiful, devoted wife of 50 years: Mrs. Gracie Lee McCoy; three daughters: Carolyn (Lee Branch) McCoy, Renae (Bernard) Foster, and Cherika (Torreon) Underwood; one sister: Ms. Eunice McCoy; one brother: Mr. Earnest (Velma) McCoy; three grandchildren: Kareeba McCoy, Kevonte McCoy and Torreon Underwood, Jr.; two brothers-in-law: Mr. Roosevelt (Cleonia) Pittman and Mr. Oscar Underwood; two sisters-in-law: Mrs. Lula McCoy and Mary Rene McCoy; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Two families, who are like family: the McCray and Turner families. Also, a special lifelong friend: Mr. Joseph Pate.
