John Henry Thomas

Mr. John H. Thomas of Gordon, Alabama departed this life on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at the age of 82.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 21, 2022 from 4 PM to 6 PM at the funeral home.  

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at 1 PM at St. Mary Baptist Church, 161 St. Mary Road, Gordon, Alabama 36343.

Burial will immediately follow the service at the Church's Cemetery.

John Henry Thomas, affectionately known as "BULL", was born April 15, 1940 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Thomas, Sr. in Gordon, Alabama.

John became a member of St. Mary Baptist Church at an early age.

John graduated from Ashford High School in Ashford, Alabama, and moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where he worked as a correctional officer for the Jacksonville Sheriff Office and retired after dedicating 30 years of service.

John, later, reunited with Alice Mitchell and were joined in Holy Matrimony on May 13, 1978.

On Tuesday, September 13, 2022, an angel descended from above and whispered softly, "Come Home".

John was preceded in death by his father and mother; sisters: Mrs. Edna Ray, Ora L. Tobie, Lugean Smith, Eddie R. Brown, and Lizzie M. Miller; brothers: James E. Thomas and Aaron Thomas, Jr.

John leaves to mourn a devoted wife: Alice Mitchell Thomas; 10 children: Ronald (Juanita), Sharon, Mae (Gary), Mary (Kevin), Dexter, Terrolyn (Randall), Carolyn, William, and Stacy all of Jacksonville, Florida and Denise (Russell) of Dallas, Texas; two sisters: Hazel Harley of Jacksonville, Florida and Annie J. (James) of Gordon, Alabama; one brother: Rev. Gerome (Mary) of Jacksonville, Florida; four sisters-in-law: Ressie Jackson of Ashford, Alabama, Essie Merritt of Tampa, Florida, Mary Ransom and Ruthie Mitchell both of Newark, New Jersey; one brother-in-law: Dan Mitchell (Minnie) of Tampa, Florida; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends that will miss him dearly.
