John Foy Banks Sr. departed this life Sunday, June, 3 2018.

Mr. John Foy Banks Sr. was born, May 17, 1924 to Mr. John Foy and Betty Banks in Stewart County Georgia. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at River Bethel A.M.E. Church in Stewart County Ga. He was educated in the Georgia school system. He married the love of his life Mrs.Beatrice Toombs Banks and they were together for 72 years,10 months and 3 days until her death. To this union was five children Beatrice (Polly) Stanyard, Dr. Louise N. Banks (deceased), Rosie M.B.Richards, John Foy Banks Jr. and James Larry (Linda) Banks Sr.

John Banks Jr. was a faithful member of Nickels Chapel A.M.E.Church later renamed Stringer Street A.M.E., where he remained a loyal and active church member. Mr. Banks was an active steward for over 50 years. He was involved in several remodelings and ground breakings for his church that he loved dearly. Mr. Banks served as church school superintendent for over 37 years. He was Local Lay Organization president and District Lay Organization President of the Dothan-Eufaula district. He worked with the building funds committee, National Peanut Festival committee and with the church concession stand. Mr. Banks is the Former president of the male chorus.

He was concerned about the youth in the city and his church. Mr. Banks sponsored summer ice cream parties for the youth who participated in the summer programs with the city of Dothan Department of Leisure Services. Big Daddy enjoyed  traveling with the A.M.E. church on all levels. He also looked forward to church picnics, and vacation bible school with the youth of Stringer Street A.M.E church. He also looked forward to the summer youth trips. Mr. Banks remained active until his illness but he still loved and was concerned about his church. He is a World War 2 Navy Veteran, and  was employed by the Virginia Carolina Fertilizer plant (the VC acid plant hill). Mr. Banks was loved and respected by his Acid Plant Hill family and the Enterprise Street community.  He was also employed by Town Finance Company in downtown Dothan. He grew and managed his community garden as well. In his earlier years while raising his children, he also was the coach of the Cowarts Cubs baseball team. Thank you Mr. Foy Banks for your loyalty, diligence,and outstanding dedication for distinguished Christian Service.  “Solute this Soldier.”

Mr. Banks was preceded in death by his Parents, three brothers: Willie James, Ordane, and William Haywood Banks, three sisters: Annie Mae Henley, Beaulah Ash, and Fannie Toombs, his wife of almost 73 years when she passed, Mrs. Beatrice Banks, his daughter: Dr. Louise Nicole Banks, his eldest grandson: James Earl Stanyard Jr., great grandson: Brian Stanyad Sr., and one son in law: Roy L. Richards.

He leaves to cherish life's lasting memories his devoted and dedicated children:  Beatrice (Polly) Stanyard, Rosie B. Richards, John Foy (Bubba) Banks Jr., and James Larry (Linda) Banks, one son in law: James Earl Stanyard Sr., sister: Bessie B. Ward (Dorchester,Mass), sister in law: Rosie Knight, brother in law: William Toombs (both of Atlanta Ga.), four grand daughters: Beverly T. Stanyard, (Dothan, AL), Pamela L. Stanyard, (Atlanta Ga,), Nikki B. (Willie) Carroll and Rosalynn L. Richards (Dothan, AL), six grandsons: Anthony K. (Angela) Stanyard, Sean K. Banks (Dothan, AL), Corey F. (Derrica) Banks (Columbus,Ga), James Larry (Buck) Banks Jr, James Lawrence Banks, and James Lance Banks (Dothan, AL).

A host of special great grand, great great grand and great great great grand nieces/nephews and other relatives including long life friends: Mr. James M. Roberts and Wilbert Glanton.
