With heavy hearts and loving remembrance, we celebrate the life of Joel McCloud, who peacefully transitioned from this earthly life on February 22, 2026.
Joel was born on September 3, 1940, in Newville, Alabama, to the late Harmon and Laura McCloud. One of twelve children, he was raised with strong values, a deep respect for family, and an unwavering faith in God that guided him throughout his life.
Joel was a lifelong resident of Newville and a dedicated Warehouse Card Clerk at West Point Stevens for 41 years. He took pride in his work prior to retirement and was a wonderful provider to his family.
A faithful member of Center Missionary Baptist Church, Joel trusted God in every season of life. His faith was not just something he spoke about — it was something he lived daily through his kindness, service, and steady spirit. Prior to his transition, he was the oldest living deacon at Center Baptist Church, served as their Sunday School superintendent for nearly 60 years, and was a staple in their choirs.
Joel deeply loved his family. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Mary McCloud for 64 ½ years. He was a proud and loving father to his son, Dr. Joel McCloud Jr. (Connie), and his daughter, Janet Montgomery. He also leaves behind cherished grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins who brought him great joy and laughter.
He was preceded in death by all 11 siblings: Malissie, Daisy, Calatha, Nadine, Naomi, Jerlene, Betty, Olin, Oneal, Norman, and Henry Frank.
Joel will be remembered for his calm presence, gentle heart, wise counsel, and unwavering love. Though we mourn his passing, we are comforted knowing that his legacy of faith, strength, and devotion to family will live on in the lives he touched.
“Well done, thy good and faithful servant.”
