Joe White, age 79, of Dothan, Alabama, passed away on May 6, 2026, after a life marked by love, devotion, and steadfast family ties.
Joe was born on April 2, 1947, in Dothan, Alabama, to J.V. and Luvine White. He grew up surrounded by the values of hard work, faith, and family, and those principles shaped the man he became. Throughout his life, he was known for his quiet strength, his warm spirit, and the steady presence he brought to those around him.
Joe was united in marriage to Elizabeth Greenwood White, and from this union, two sons were born. He cherished his role as a husband and father, and his family was the center of his world. He was also blessed to share 34 years with his partner, Dorothy Patterson, who preceded him in death. Their years together were filled with companionship, commitment, and love.
He leaves to cherish his memory his sons: Stavious Devan (Judy) White and Joseph (Joy) White Jr. He was a proud grandfather to Baxton Smith, Kylah Smith, Armani Smith, and Nylah White, and he treasured each of them deeply. He also leaves behind his stepdaughter, Nikki (Richard) Patterson, along with three step-grandchildren - Joe Patterson, Jasmine Marsh, and BreAnne Dawsey. His legacy continues through five great-grandchildren: Kameron Patterson, Kimbella Patterson, Tyriq Patterson, Amor Townes, and Aspen Oliver, all of Dothan, Alabama.
Joe is also survived by his two sisters: Dinah (James) Bryant, and Cynthia (Eddie) Wooten of Fayetteville, North Carolina. He is further survived by six brothers: A.V. (Catherine) White , William (Clara) White, Willie J. (Rosetta) White, Jerry (Verlinda) White, Lee Andrew White, and Bobby Early White, all of Dothan, Alabama. He also leaves a host of loving nieces and nephews who will remember him with deep affection.
Those who knew Joe will remember a man who carried himself with dignity and kindness. He valued family above all else and found joy in the simple blessings of life. His presence brought comfort, his words carried wisdom, and his love was evident in the way he showed up for others. He will be remembered for the bonds he built, the memories he created, and the example he set for his family.
