Mr. Joe Melton, age 74, of Gordon, Alabama passed away Saturday, October 3, 2020. Visitation will be Friday, October 9, 2020 from 4-6 PM at the Great Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Gordon, AL; funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2020 10:00 AM at the Great Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 68 Willoughby Road, Gordon, AL 36343; under the direction of the caring staff of Scott's Chapel Hill Mortuary "Because We Care"
Deacon Joe Melton was born on September 21, 1946 in Houston, Alabama to the late Joseph and Lila Melton.
He grew up in the St. Johns Community and joined Greater Antioch Church at a early age where he remained a faithful servant until death. January 15, 1973 he united in marriage to Lillie Elaine Bonds to this union they had five children. He work at CSX Railroad for thirty-three years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two children and one great grandson.
He leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife: Lillie Elaine Melton; three children: Aldonia of Dothan, Alabama, Samuel Melton, Emanuel (Melissa) Melton, Laurel M.D.; eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren; six brothers: Ervin (Michelle) Melton of NY, James Melton, Alvin (Ollie) Melton, John Melton, Willie (Glenda) Melton, Mathis (Kim) Melton all of Gordon, Alabama; three sisters: Mollie (James) Reynolds, Nancy Hollis and Mattie (Hayward) Teague; brother-in-law: Byron (Ruth) Bonds of Burkesville, NY; sisters-in-law: Edith Bonds of Ashford, Alabama, Mae Grigg of Greatneck, New York, Shirley Melton of Bainbridge, GA; goddaughter: Michelle (Melton) Brown of Daytona Beach, FL; four aunts, two uncles and a special friend: Rosco Hicks; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin and other relatives and friends.
