Joann Hemphill Robinson, a beacon of kindness and gentleness, whose passionate spirit touched the lives of many, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, in her hometown of Dothan, Alabama. Born on April 1, 1942, to the late Mellar Mae Hemphill, Joann's life was a testament to the love and strength that can flourish in the heart of Alabama.
Mrs. Robinson's journey through life was marked by her unwavering devotion to her family. She is survived by her loving son, Ricky Hemphill (Princess), who, along with his wife, remained close to her in Dothan. Joann's legacy continues through her grandsons, Mr. Palandis Drayton (Mary) and Fernando Maybin, both of whom she cherished deeply. Her granddaughters, Shimoda Austin of Atlanta, Georgia, Sasha, Bianca, and Shankeria Austin (Keldrick), all of Dothan, Alabama, will remember her as a pillar of support and love.
The family tree that Joann nurtured with care will continue to grow with her nine great-grandchildren: Chaise Hill, O'marion Austin, Malaysia Austin-Lewis, Ava Bouier, Kartielle Austin, Treunna Austin, Braylon Robinson, Janasia Austin Springfield, and JyAsia Smith. Each of them carries a part of her spirit and will no doubt pass on the values she held dear to future generations.
Beyond her immediate family, Joann's warmth and generosity extended to a wide circle of friends who became like family to her. Doris King, Billy Jackson, Annette Tobie, Mazue Martin, Mark, John, Dom Pughett, Tony Davis, Ms. Connie, Mark Curry, and Mr. Reggie, all from Alabama, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, are left to cherish her memory and the countless moments of joy she brought into their lives.
Joann Hemphill Robinson's life was one of service and care, not only for her family but for everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her gentle demeanor and kind heart made her a beloved figure in her community. She approached life with a passion that was evident in everything she did, from the simplest acts of kindness to the most significant expressions of love.
As we bid farewell to Joann, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey completed with grace and dignity. Her departure from this world was as she lived: surrounded by love, in the comfort of her home, and with the knowledge that she was dearly loved. Her spirit, characterized by compassion and a gentle strength, will continue to inspire those who knew her.
