Jimmy McMiller Life and Times

With heavy hearts, the family of Jimmy Ray “Fat/Fatty Boy, Jim Ray ” Mc Miller announces his peaceful transition on March 29, 2025, after a brief illness. Born on January 18, 1948, to the late Jimmy Lee Mc Miller and Eloise Mc Miller, Jimmy was raised with strong family values that guided him throughout his life.

On March 25, 1997, Jimmy married Janice Sue Shelley. During his life’s journey, he proudly embraced his blended family. He was preceded in death by two of his children, Jimmy Ray Mc Miller Jr. and Eleanor Mc Miller People. He is survived by his living children, including Timothy (Rachell) McMiller of Savannah, GA; Avis (Rhonda) Franklin; Tvis Franklin; J’treme Shelley (Misty); Malinda (Ronald) Stephenson of Dothan; and Sharon Ford (Nate) of Dothan, as well as his son-in-law, Gary People. Jimmy’s love extended to his many grandchildren(18), great-grandchildren(14), and great-great-grandchildren(2), each of whom brought him immense pride and joy.

Jimmy leaves behind two living siblings, David Mc Miller and Mary Bradham, alongside a wide circle of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will deeply miss his easygoing nature and welcoming spirit. He also cherished the companionship of his special cousin, Lee “Bolo” Bigums, and his many dear fishing buddies.

From an early age, Jimmy found joy in fishing, tending to flowers, and growing vegetables and fruits—passions he eagerly shared with family and friends. He was also known for his love of good Southern cooking, especially peas, squash, and hearty, home-cooked meals such as chicken with tomatoes and rice, salmon croquettes, black-eyed peas, and fresh biscuits.

The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to everyone who offered prayers, comforting words, and acts of kindness during this time. While we grieve the loss of Jimmy’s physical presence, we take comfort in celebrating the joyful memories and abiding love he leaves behind. May his gentle spirit continue to guide and watch over us all.
