Jimmie McClendon Life and Times

Jimmie Louis McClendon, affectionately know as “Superman” a beacon of love and pillar of strength, departed from this world on May 22, 2024. Born on November 10, 1947, in Ozark, Alabama, Jimmie's journey through life was one marked by dedication, joy, and an unwavering commitment to his family and faith.  Jimmie brought light and laughter to all who knew him - leaving a legacy of love, service, and joy, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of his family and friends.

Jimmie was a man of great faith, which was the cornerstone of his life and as a member of Patterson Street Freewill Baptist Church located in Dothan, Alabama, he dedicated his life to serving God and supporting his family. He was a man of faith, and his gentle soul believed in the importance of living for today and making every moment count. His service to God and his community reflected the depth of his character, and his dedication to his family showcased the warmth of his heart. His gentle demeanor and unwavering support for his loved ones will be remembered as the hallmarks of his life.

Jimmie's educational journey culminated at Middleton High School in Tampa, Florida. Jimmie's life was an embodiment of service, as evidenced by his honorable tenure in the United States Navy from 1962 to 1966. His post-military career culminated in a fulfilling retirement in 2012 from the Southeast Alabama Gas Company. Even in retirement, he remained active, pouring his energy into singing in the men's choir, exploring the world through travel, and cherishing precious moments with his family and grandchildren.

In 2002, Jimmie's life was forever changed when he met Carol “his Kryptonite”, the woman who would become his cherished wife and soulmate “the love of his life”, thanks to the thoughtful introduction by Blanche and Comer Copeland. Their marriage in 2004 created a beautiful blended family, uniting Jimmie's four boys and Carol's four girls in a bond of love and mutual respect, creating a tapestry of love and shared memories that will be treasured for generations to come. Together, they navigated the joys and challenges of life, their love serving as a testament to the power of connection and commitment.

Known for his mild tone, selflessness, and easygoing nature, Jimmie was the life of the party and a dapper figure every Sunday, standing side by side with his beloved Carol. His philosophy of life was to live for today and make every moment count - an ethos that guided him through each day with grace and purpose as he embodied the spirit of togetherness in all he did.

Predeceasing Jimmie are his parents: Jimmie McClendon and Isamae Underwood; his sister: Flora Mae Brown; his aunts: Adell Pouncy, and Annie Bell William; and his uncle: Henry C. Underwood.

Jimmie's leaves behind a legacy of love, cherished by his beloved wife: Carol McClendon; his four sons: Derrick (Sandra) McClendon, Cedric McClendon, Jimmie (Princess) McClendon, Jr., Donnie (Jamie) McClendon; daughters: Malika (Erick) Hallett, Bisa Northern, Latifa Northern, Adeela (Julius) Whittaker; his siblings: Katie (Hobert) Walker, Johnnie Frank, Dan (Jessie) McClinden, Wayne McClinden, and Tommie McClinden, a host of nieces, nephews, a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews, that will carry forward the wisdom and joy he imparted to them.

A special thanks to Jimmie's brother - Wayne for showing up every time Carol called and for always being available without complaining.

As we remember Jimmie, we are reminded of the words of Helen Keller: "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Jimmie's love, indeed, has become a part of us all. His impact was profound, and his memory will be cherished as a source of motivation and joy.

Jimmie's success is measured not in material wealth but in the richness of his relationships and the positive impact he had on those around him. In his own words, as he now joins the celestial ranks, "Now I'm out in the atmosphere... take care of my Kryptonite." His playful spirit and enduring love for Carol echo in these words, a final message of care and devotion.

Jimmie Louis McClendon, our very own "Superman," has completed his earthly mission and now rests in the glory of the divine. As we bid farewell, we hold tight to the memories, the laughter, and the love he shared. His journey continues in the hearts he touched, and his story will be told for generations to come. Let us celebrate the life of a man who was truly extraordinary, who lived with passion, and who loved without bounds. Jimmie, your spirit soars, and you will forever be our inspiration.
