Jim Bob Knox transitioned to eternal rest on February 15, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion. He was born on April 27, 1944, in Slocomb, Alabama, to the late Jim H. and Bertha (Frye) Knox.
Jim graduated from Geneva County Training School and enlisted in the United States Air Force. After four years of dedicated service, he was honorably discharged in 1969. He then began a career in the Security Protective Service as a police officer with Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). While working for the CIA, he met and married Pamela (Jackson) Knox. They remained married until her death in 2000. Jim retired from the CIA in 2004 after more than thirty-nine years of faithful service.
He was truly a jack of all trades and enjoyed tackling DIY projects, from working on cars to completing home improvements. Jim loved watching old westerns and traveling. After moving from Washington, DC, back to his hometown of Slocomb, he reconnected with family and friends and regularly attended the East Geneva County Senior Citizen Center. He found love a second time and remarried in March 2017 to Gertha (Baxter) Knox. They served the lord together in his childhood church, Countyline Missionary Baptist Church.
Jim was a proud father and grandfather. He believed in tough love but showed gentleness when it was needed most. Known for his wisdom, he freely shared his life experiences and guidance with younger generations. He shared a special bond with his sister, Betty Sue, affectionately known as “Sue.” They spent their golden years enjoying one another’s company.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert Knox (Inez), Nathaniel Knox, and Ivory (Carl) Knox (Mae Eve); two sisters, Bobby McClendon and Betty Brown(Thomas); brothers-in-law, Gary and Carroll Jackson; sisters-in-law, Gail Jackson, Denise Dyson, and Sharon Pinkney; and his previous wife, Pamela Knox.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Gertha Knox; children, Terrace Knox (LaFreda); Tracy, Shannon McGhee; and James (Shalonda), Tara, and Teresa Knox; grandchildren, Tianna and Markale Knox, Tyrin Goodwin, Charlie, Marquis, Stepfon, Taylor, and Tyler McGhee Briah Buchley, Joeton Howard, Justin, Davis and Nola Jackson; sisters-in-law, Claude, Tonya Jackson; a special great-nephew, Tevin Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives, and friends.
