The legendary Jehl Jermaine Dawsey, Sr. was born on October 7, 1981 in Dothan, Alabama to his parents Johnny (Tub) Dawsey Sr. and Joyce Dawsey.
He accepted Christ at an early age he joined Shady Grove Baptist Church #2, then at a young age he joined Tabernacle Baptist Church. He was a 2000 graduate of Dothan High School and attended college at Troy University in Dothan, Alabama.
Jermaine attended Hawk Houston and Boys and Girls Club in Dothan, Alabama. Jermaine was well known in the city and surrounding areas for his work ethics, coaching and mentoring of children; refereed, score board keeper, bookkeeper and coaching at Hawk Houston and Dothan Leisure services in Dothan, Alabama where he then later joined the AUSA basketball program with coach Willie Brinkley. Jermaine AKA coach Dawsey had such a love and passion for mentoring and coaching he started the AUSA travel basketball where he overseen four travel ball teams along with supporting staff and coaching.
Jermaine was preceded in death by his father: Johnny (Tub) Dawsey, Sr.; his paternal grandparents: Jerry, Sr. and Gussie Dawsey; his maternal grandparents: James T. and Trimma L. Butler; two aunts: Macie Salter and Sandra Butler; two uncles: Tommy L. Butler and James E. Butler.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories his wife; Monica Dawsey; his children: Shamya Dawsey, Jehl (JD) Dawsey, Jr., Jahlil Dawsey, Daijah Smith, Asiya Ward, Braydon Granger-Holt; his grandchildren: Adalynn Darrisaw, Rae’Lynn McGrady, Riley McGrady and Davian Williams; his Godmother: Vivian Jamison; his Godchildren: Thomas (TJ) Holston, Jr. and Daran Anglin aka D-Man; his mother: Joyce Dawsey; grandmother: Robbie Thomas; his siblings: J. Lester Dawsey, Jermai Rabb, Michael Holland, Shirley V. Butler; special uncle: Jessie L. McDaniel; special cousin: Charles (Boom Boom) Skipper; mother-in-law: Sharon (Kenneth) Reynolds; father-in-law: Charlie (Yvonne) Saffold; brother-in-law: Keevion Melton, sister-in-law: Shamya Melton; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
